Hmm that’s true. I guess I saw them as one in the same. No I’m not trying to have kids at the moment.

Yeah that’s why I ended up having that convo with him if he saw himself making next steps by the time he’s 30. Because if he said no I probably would have had to end it.

That’s a good way to try and explain it. Thank you.

Yes, this is exactly what I’m struggling with.

I don’t think it’s unusual to be thinking about marriage and making sure we’re on the same page after 5 years. I don’t want him to marry me as a way to prove he’s committed. I know he loves me very much. But for myself I wouldn’t feel comfortable buying a home or having kids with someone who doesn’t want to get married. I just don’t see how I could take our relationship seriously or how other people would take me seriously if were still just dating when we’re in our 50’s. that’s not what I want.

I think he does intend to marry me and means it when he says he wants to be with me forever. Just based on my experience with him, at the end of the day I believe him when he says that. I guess what bothers me more is that he would be doing it to make me happy more so than because he really wants it.

What kind of consequences would you suggest? I want to be able to enforce my boundaries but don’t really know how.

I guess this is my last option so I’ll try it. Thank you.

Yes, I feel like this is an accurate assessment of the situation. I’ve been trying to break free from that negative impression of me but I guess that’s impossible if I am still ill tempered now and then.

Yeah it’ll be in response to something. It won’t just happen out of nowhere. Like maybe he does something that bothers me and I will get irritated and respond in a snippy way. He is very critical about my character. He will say “you’re difficult”, “you’re negative”, stuff like that. However, when he’s at work he will always text me saying how much he misses me and can’t wait to see me so it’s confusing. He will also complain about random things like dirty dishes and stuff. We have sex maybe 2 ti…

I guess mean is the wrong word. I guess the word is irritable. Nobody is in a good mood all the time. And if he does something that bothers me I’m just trying to figure out how to not get irritated so easily.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
