Yup. Use "feel" to identify feelings - scared, happy, angry, etc. Using it in other contexts diminishes the power of your words and gives others an excuse to ignore you. "Well I'm sorry you feel that way" State facts as facts - not, "I feel like you don't do you share of _____” but, "I've noticed that you don't do your share of _____”

It totally works too because we are so conditioned to please others, once a question is asked we feel VERY awkward to decline to answer it. Then once we've divulged (or heard) things we would normally only tell someone we're close to, our brain acts like we must be close to them, too. It's very sneaky.

Ok what is OLD? I haven't come across this yet in the handbook (admittedly have not yet read all the links in the handbook yet)

I think this is true. It's that's little bit of extra love that's necessary to overcome to internalized misogyny of our society and place you on actual equal ground as opposed to the false 50/50.

Yeah I think they have to have a healthy level of self esteem in order for this to work, if they love you more AND they place no value on themselves, they will simply be intimidated and succumb to their insecurities.

I watched a Netflix original movie the other day (sorry can't remember the name) about a battered woman rebuilding a life for herself and her child. The Ex tries to get her govt housing allowance taken away from her by claiming she lied on a form. In the proceeding to determine if she would lose her housing allowance the judge asks why she didn't leave sooner. She responded, why do people always ask me why I didn't leave sooner but they never ask him why he didn't stop? I thought that was a powe…

Same here and I've had mixed experiences. I've only had it with one partner and he seemed to be way more enthusiastic the times when he was trying to go for it without proper preparation. Like, the work of making it enjoyable for me made it less enjoyable for him. I never allowed him to continue if I felt any pain at all.

I think it's a case of context, as in, when you say this to a woman determines whether or not it is helpful advice. In a therapy context, I think it is helpful in helping a woman recognize the patterns in her life and connections to past trauma so that they can heal and learn to consciously make different choices rather than unconsciously continue the destructive patterns and continually add to her trauma bank. In the context of, well what do you expect your baggage attracts men who know they ca…

Single moms are the hardest working people I know. Bashing on/ostracizing them is another way of denying that women are capable on their own of anything and don't "need" men for anything.

Glad to see a decent sentence. My abuser barely got a slap in the wrist and now walks free to live a normal life. The registry in the state isn't public. He suffers zero consequences. Meanwhile my life was altered forever. Therapy helps, but does not erase, and a lot of victims can't even afford that bit of help. Normalization of sexual assault in our society makes me nauseous.

I relate with both sides of this story so fucking hard. On the one hand being a single mom is fucking hard and sometimes at the end of the day you are just out of gas and can't be the parent you should be, so I get your mom taking the easy road and not holding him accountable (not excusing it, just understand her position). Yet on the other hand I feel terrible for you being put in a position of becoming the mother for this child, that's not fair to you and it sets you up to become one more case…
