They have decriminalized personal amounts. The answer as to why they don't legalize production and supplier-level amounts is because the cartels, the Mexican public (who vote in their politicians), and our government pressure them not to. So two of those reasons have nothing to do with US drug policy, and the third I will grant you. I get that there is a causal relationship between US drug policy and drug crime in other countries. The policy is not what matters. Our ability to enforce it is. So then why doesn't Mexico make drugs legal? You might be correct in your assigning cause and effect to the situation, but as I said, I don't think you can assign blame (as in moral blame, not causal effect) on a drug policy in one country for causing problems in another that have the same exact drug policy but just lack enforcement.

Except those drugs are also illegal in Mexico and just about every other country. If every other country made all drugs legal, then you might have a point. Just because we are rich enough to afford the drugs, doesn't place responsibility on us. I am all for drug decriminalization and reform also. I just don't think you can blame the US drug policy on Mexico's violence when our drug policy is essentially the same as all other countries.
