It's not that women work harder to receive similar grades, but that they "perceive" that they work harder while receiving similar grades in the aftermath. For example, I thought I was studying average during my undergrad days, but I'd score as well as my friend's gf who thought she was the most diligent student. She had a reputation of being a bookworm but once I got to know her, I realized she was studying just as hard as anyone else. It's all perception.
