I’m using it as a hyperbolic example. You’re completely ignoring the context of my comment in favor of bullshit identity politics.

How, exactly?
/r/MensRights25/12/20 07:07 PM

Lol dude I never said it was that. I asked if it was a possibility. And you completely glossed over the other, more quantifiable proposals I made. Sounds to me like you’re not even trying to argue in good faith.

The vast majority of people in America wouldn’t immediately consider Indians to be Asians. They think Asian means Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. Or if they’re a bit older, maybe even Vietnamese.
/r/MensRights25/12/20 05:26 PM
1

Because Asians are “yellow people” and Indians are brown. Not my views. Just has to do with racism and also fetishization of Japanese, Korean, and Chinese women. They probably wouldn’t consider Cambodian or Vietnamese women either because they think they’re “dirty” Asians.
/r/MensRights25/12/20 05:20 PM

Typically, if you ask any American, they wouldn’t consider Indians as being Asians. Like when a neck beard says they want an Asian wife, they typically think Japanese, Korean, or Chinese, not Indian.
/r/MensRights25/12/20 04:50 PM

That’s a good point. And many people don’t usually associate Indians and Asians as the same thing.

Does anyone actually know the reason for this or are we just going to spew the tired old rhetoric of “lol Asian ppl work harder”? Could it be that immigrants to the country are contributing to selection bias because many of the Asian women that don’t immigrate to America generally don’t have the work ethic or the money to start off to get a degree as those that do immigrate? Could it be that Asian women are fetishized in America, so they’re more likely to get raises when asked for them? Could it…

The links I've provided so far. Well, you provided on link to an anecdotal story, and then one with statuates that I'd have to take a few days to go through. It would be nice if you pointed out the problematic ones so we could discuss. womens birth control I mean, that's good for everyone, isn't it? Why would they be taking birth control if they weren't having sex with a man (other than for reasons like dampening period cramps or acne)? You have ignored all of the evidence I have presented so far. What evidence? I asked for people. You gave me the name of a singular organization. How am I to know whether that org is even supported by the majority of feminists? If you know that it is often used to blame men's problems on men, why are you arguing? It seems like you still have a misunderstanding. Are there not some problems that men face that are perpetrated by men? Besides, that's not the only thing the term encompasses, and igno…

Lobbying for laws that keep rapist "fathers" from getting child custody rights Are you arguing that rapists should have parental rights? You're aware that all male fraternities still exist, right? I was in one.
/r/MensRights15/12/20 04:28 PM

First of all to you answer, then why are you trying to frame this issue as only a problem caused by women when it's also men that refuse to listen to their peers? Secondly, to answer your question, it's definitely not helpful to automatically assume that men are domestic abusers, although the rate of domestic violence is disputed on whether men or women commit it more.

It would be nice is you answered my question before going off on another point.
/r/MensRights15/12/20 03:22 PM

The reason, in my opinion, is that all the "spaces" that men could form those friendships in have been systematically destroyed by feminism. Lol dude, no woman is preventing you from talking to your male friends or joining a fraternity.

I'm just saying in general there's a huge disparity. It's a pervasive problem with both groups wanting to have a pissing contest about who's more victimized in society rather than come together to solve the issues.

People always assume the worst about me. My liberal friends think I'm a conservative and my conservative friends think I'm a liberal. I like to walk that thin line of obscurity. Trust me, I know more than you probably think about the MRA movement. If you dig really deep in my post history, I'm the one usually educating other people on it. Like I said, I'm just here for honest dialouge in serach of truth.
/r/MensRights15/12/20 01:00 AM
1

I'm an MRA you know. I'm simply engaging in a dialouge. Most of my questions, I already have an answer to, I just wanted to hear what the other person would say. If you left this thinking I'm a feminist, I think you should re-read the conversation.

There isn't a man alive today who hasn't had his masculinity questioned as toxic, been told that he's manspreading or mainsplaining or been made to feel guilty because of the gender he was born with Well, I haven't experienced that at all in my life. The whole manspreading thing was pretty much contained to tumblrinas of yesteryear and pretty much mocked by the feminist movement as a whole. I haven't heard of that in years... /r/MensRights14/12/20 11:48 PM

Wait, you took a comment from some random user on this sub as a voice for feminist beliefs? I don’t think that’s honest. And the second post is just a short list of a few radical feminists. I asked for what parts modern feminism is anti-men, not what first wave feminists thought.
/r/MensRights14/12/20 11:48 PM
1

I’m just reading the comment you showed me. There’s no blind faith. Clearly there’s sentiment that they don’t believe what they’re saying. They were told it’s not a systemic problem, so that’s what they repeat, but from the substance of the comment, it’s clear that they don’t believe that mantra to be true. I’m the first person to say that feminism has its issues. I hope you don’t think I’m parading it around like it’s perfect.
/r/MensRights14/12/20 11:40 PM

What tenants of feminism are inherently anti-men?
/r/MensRights14/12/20 11:07 PM
1

That's fair enough. I've been loosely a part of MRA for a while now, and see it's purpose. I just think that there are issues with the group that needs to be addressed, like how there are issues with feminism. I have friends that are pretty into MRA, and even one friend that quite literally hates women. I know that isn't what MRA is about, but it seems like it certainly attracts that kind of person.
/r/MensRights14/12/20 10:47 PM
1

I know it isn't, but I feel like at a certain level, they don't even believe what they're saying.
/r/MensRights14/12/20 10:44 PM
1

I think they're really arguing that the systemic problem isn't as bad as the problems women face. I would disagree since it's impossible to quantify unless you just count the number of people that are victims of these issues.
/r/MensRights14/12/20 09:56 PM
0

but that's not their fault or the fault of masculinity. How many of your male friends can you confide in, talk with your problems about, and cry with? Maybe you might, but many, many men don't have those systems because talking about feelings is considered "gay", or "unmanly".
/r/MensRights14/12/20 09:55 PM

... but modern feminism includes mens rights. I know it's not obvious, as the name implies that they only care about women. It's definitely an unfortunate name for a movement. Personally, I think we should all drop the men vs women bullshit and focus on humanitarianism.

I mean no offense, but aren't you just screaming "persecution!" without even trying to engage with them? You just assume you'll get autobanned? I wasn't. Also the men's rights movement predates feminism Yes, but that's like saying gaming predates fortnite. Sure, but fortnite is vastly more popular than cribbage. The MRA movement was clearly a reactionary response to modern feminism and, mostly, radical feminists, which I understand to a point. I never even heard of the mens rights movement at al…

Well the first reply to that says: It's true. I definitely have known one or two really, really misandrist "feminists." One used to rather famously participate here and has gone fully "castrate all adult men and give boys hormone blockers." She is... not well. Clearly they're aware of these issues.
/r/MensRights14/12/20 09:26 PM

I'm saying that if feminism had never been a thing, men's rights issues would still be affecting us I just don't understand that logic. It's like saying that if the humanitarian movement was never a thing, we'd still have humanitarian problems. Is there a point you're trying to make? it's wrong to force men into battle where they were sure to die Who else are we to send? mutilate them as infants I believe this is a result of religious fanaticism. There was a belief that it would prevent boys fro…
/r/MensRights14/12/20 09:24 PM

Almost all of the issues we face existed long before feminism did. What does that have to do with anything, though? The humanitarian movement didn't exist from the beginning of humanity, therefore it's invalid?

I think taking one person's word for it on a niche sub isn't representative of the movement as a whole, but go ahead. There's really no way of verifying that they are a genuine feminist or just a troll.
/r/MensRights14/12/20 08:41 PM
1

They still believe that men dont experience issues for being men on an institutional level. Show me where they say this. I also regularly see feminist classify issues men experience as misogyny, which in a way states that its not an issue men face. Can you show me an example?
/r/MensRights14/12/20 08:34 PM

For the people downvoting me, the person I'm talking with literally said that they didn't ACTUALLY get banned from /r/feminism. They only said they THOUGHT they'd get banned if they posted there. This is literally preemptively playing the victim. if feminists really were addressing these issues then there wouldn't be a men's rights movement. I disagree. I think MRA was an overreaction to the feminist movement, and a reaction to radical feminists, much like how "all lives matters" was a protest t…

I agree these are major problems that men face, and while radical feminists may not agree, I don't think any moderate feminist would disagree. It's not beneficial for women or society as a whole if men are discriminated against in a court of law, nor when they're stripped of bodily autonomy. It causes a generation of children raised by shitty mothers, which only perpetuates the cycle. I also think that men's life expectancy is lower because of lower health standards for men, and I think that the…

It’s a modern masculine trait. Sure, there are healthy ways of dealing with emotions, but many men don’t have those outlets or support groups. I’m just giving one example out of many. I’m sure you could come up with more problems that men face because of societal standards and expectations.
/r/MensRights14/12/20 07:24 PM

I never asked a loaded question. You just made it that way. Like I said, I know you agree with me. You just can't admit it. It's almost like you being a little... toxic, huh?
/r/MensRights14/12/20 07:16 PM

Is bottling up your emotions less healthy than sharing them and having them used against you? This is a loaded question, but you still answered my question. No. It's not healthy to bottle up your emotions. I know you agree with that statement. However if you blame masculinity and say "well women always have it worse" I never have and never will make such a statement. It's society's interpretation of men and masculinity that is toxic, not masculinity itself. You misunderstand what "toxic masculin…

Everyone downvoting me needs to work on their reading comprehension. Okay, but that’s not what feminism represents today, so that’s kind of a moot point. They haven’t had that belief for over a hundred years. Okay, so what exactly do you have against the idea of toxic masculinity? Do you not believe that there are certain aspects of masculinity that are toxic? The term doesn’t mean “all masculinity is toxic”. It just means that there are parts that are detrimental to men’s health which negativel…

Because there’s a huge disparity in communication. Feminists think MRAs are the enemy and MRA guys think feminism is against them. No one is actually having serious conversations about it. There’s just finger pointing and accusations.
/r/MensRights14/12/20 05:02 PM

I definitely think a number of feminists have gone towards the more radical side and have dropped the “equality” mantra, however feminism in itself, and the majority of more moderate feminists would probably support and agree with the tenants of MRA.

It’s because a lot of second wave feminists haven’t fully embraced intersectionality and recognized men’s issues. We group all feminists together. First wave, second, and third. Same with men’s rights activists. The incels, red pillers , and PUAs get all grouped in with the men just trying to fight for their rights. Those two groups will always ideologically be against one another until everyone is on the same page.

Did you read the rest of the article? “Focusing only on the harm done by men—and the insecurities harbored by men—ignores the broader, systematic nature of the beast. The problem was never just masculinity. It was, and is, inflexible gender roles for men and women alike.” To Price, toxic femininity exists and “is just as pernicious as toxic masculinity in how it affects all people regardless of gender.”

If I'm being honest, a lot of the guys that join these manosphere circles have been hurt in one way or another, and they think that blaming feminism is going to solve their problem. In reality, the tenants of feminism and MRA are practically the same. However, many, many feminists, especially vocal ones, view MRA as their enemy, so that does absolutely nothing to recify the situation. No, toxic masculinity isn't responsible for any of those things He ironically says as Gavin McInnes, Steven Crowder, Alex Jones, and Rush Limbaugh advertise their super macho manly products for you to buy.

If you don’t think toxic masculinity isn’t one of the main reasons why Trump was elected then we don’t really have more to discuss.

I agree it's a loaded term, and I loathe the person that thought it was a good idea to call it that. It's caused a lot of misunderstanding and negative social discource. The fundamentals of "toxic masculinity" are aligned with the fundamentals of this sub, ironically.

Society’s toxic expectations of men I believe this would be a better descriptor, however you contradicted yourself at the end. it serves the purpose of making men feel inadequate. How is society's unrealistic expectations of men men's fault?
/r/MensRights25/09/20 07:33 PM

overreliance on your community, oversubmission toward other males (and really just people in general), and ostentatious display of emotions is bad for society as a whole. Did I ever say that I support those things? However, that's completely besides the point. I don't agree that men should cry all the time. I never said they should. You keep strawmanning me and it's honestly getting very annoying.

I want to say that I strongly disagree with calling it "toxic masculinity". I would rather have it called "unrealistic expectations for men from society", because that's literally what the definition of "toxic masculinity" is. I don't know why they decided to call it that because it implies that masculinity itself is toxic. I do not agree that masculinity is toxic in-and-of-itself. I really hope I'm making myself clear. It's like when people say "defund the police". Most people hear the phrase a…

Clarification: Toxic masculinity is A problem, not THE problem. they’ve had an experience where they’ve had their vulnerabilities used against them This is a perfect example of toxic masculinity. Society puts pressure on men to bottle their emotions up. a kid taking out unresolved issues out on someone else It could very well be, but you know just as well as I do that a lot of bullying comes from mistreatment at home being redirected at classmates. being an abuse victim As you've very well expla…

It does sound needlessly hostile, and I've been a proponent for calling them other things. Instead of "defund the police", we should say "demilitarize the police and fund more social workers", but that doesn't quite roll off the tongue. Instead of saying "toxic masculinity", say "negative societal pressures on men". I truly think that this sub agrees with everything "toxic masculinity" is defined as, they just are so blinded with rage (the rage of Hercules, if you will), that they don't see it.

many masculine traits are innate I never contested this. I only said that the underreliance on your community, overaggression toward other males, and universal suppression of emotions is bad for not only the overall mental health of men, but it's bad for society as a whole.

Sooo... you've contradicted yourself. First you said there aren't differences between men and women's experiences with domestic violence, then you write me two pretty good examples on how they are different. But I’m guessing that’s also toxic masculinity, right? I know you're just being facetious, but I think you're beginning to understand what I'm trying to tell you.

awful behavior like rape and abuse aren’t exclusive to one or the other. I never said they were exclusive, but I bet you'd agree with me in saying that men and women experience rape and abuse differently.
/r/MensRights24/09/20 09:25 PM

bad behaviour is a product of a lack of empathy. Bad behavior is heavily influenced by your upbringing, both from your parents and societal pressures. The pressure on men to act stoic all the time, be the provider, and become too self-reliant (not even partially relying on the people around them, like communities should do), is what contributes to toxic masculinity.

/r/MensRights24/09/20 09:17 PM

Yes, the phrase "toxic masculinity" actually agrees with the theme of this subreddit. You think it means that all masculinity is toxic, but that's not the case if you actually read what it's about. And what about women that do these things like rape, abuse and bully other women? Is that toxic femininity? Yes, absolutely. I'm actually one of the guys that calls out toxic femininity when I see it. Trust me, the lib left hates me just as much as you do.

Academics know the definition. It seems like only people in the MRA and conservative camps are the ones that have trouble understanding it. I'll admit that the wording "toxic masculinity" is bad. It implies that masculinity in-and-of-itself is toxic.

Everyone downvoting me is too stubborn to admit that they're wrong. How ironic. According to Kupers, toxic masculine norms are a feature of life for men in American prisons, where they are reflected in the behavior of both staff and inmates. The qualities of extreme self-reliance, domination of other men through violence, and avoiding the appearance of either femininity or weakness, comprise an unspoken code among prisoners Toxic masculinity can also take the form of bullying of boys by their pe…

No, that's a strawman. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxic_masculinity Other traditionally masculine traits such as devotion to work, pride in excelling at sports, and providing for one's family, are not considered to be "toxic". The concept was originally used by authors associated with the mythopoetic men's movement such as Shepherd Bliss to contrast stereotypical notions of masculinity with a "real" or "deep" masculinity that they say men have lost touch with in modern society.

You think you're sounding really smart, but you completely missed the point. Bullying is a complex issue. I doubt everyone there was rooting for the girl. You can't step in without making yourself the target. I personally think the kid was fine in doing what he did. I don't think he should have been suspended, but that's a product of the admininstration and teachers being afraid of shitty parents and not being able to do anything about it. I'd rather have my kid go to a school and develop his social skills, and maybe tutor them if they really needed the help.

It seems like you’re having a hard time understanding what I clearly wrote out for you. There are pedophiles that don’t abuse children. Pedophilia is simply the attraction to prepubescent children. Child molestation is a different story. If she abused a child that means she’s a child molester. And like I said earlier, there are many studies on the subject that clearly show that not all child molesters actually have sexual arousal towards children. They are just sociopaths.
/r/MensRights11/09/20 08:07 PM

Not entirely true. There are child molesters that aren't attracted to children, and there are also people that are attracted to children that aren't child monseters.

The concept of toxic masculinity is used in academic and media discussions of masculinity to refer to certain cultural norms that are associated with harm to society and to men themselves. Traditional stereotypes of men as socially dominant, along with related traits such as misogyny and homophobia, can be considered "toxic" due in part to their promotion of violence, including sexual assault and domestic violence. The socialization of boys in patriarchal societies often normalizes violence, suc…

Within any group, you'll see an array of people. In the feminist camp, there are terfs, rad fems, literal man haters, etc. In Christianity, there's everyone from "well I think there's a God, and I think he's the Christian God" to "God hates fags". Essentially, feminists have labelled red pill and MRA as hate groups, so that's why they don't want to talk with anyone here.

The real answer is that there are a lot of guys in the manosphere that truly have fallen into some dark places like woman hating. MRA, MGTOW, redpill, etc, are actually pretty niche, and not many people know about it, so when people DO look it up, they see articles on how those groups are filled with woman hating incels, so that's how they percieve us and they don't want to engage in conversations.
