It's a good article, but I'd like a better citation on: > Although it was struck down by the Supreme Court in 1968, states still enforce the rule with impunity.9 That citation appears to be from 1968. If we're going to say it's still happening, something a little more recent would be nice.

Thanks for the clarification. I do really wonder how people manage to find good partners in the modern world sometimes. It can certainly take some digging. But I'm sure you can see the difference between "no one will ever love me and I want to kill myself" and "my standards are so high I can't meet anyone." Those are very different problems. Obviously this is the wrong place to get into a lot of dating advice, but I think you're probably taking a darker view than is warranted. I'm happily marrie…

Where are you that you can never have a wife and kids? Also, why do you think being loved unconditionally is a reasonable measurement? Marriage is essentially a business partnership. People love pets and kids unconditionally, not their partners. Partners need to contribute.

I'm no Bernie fan, but the dude seems pretty honest for a Politician. Whereas Warren has a long history of just making stuff up if she thinks it will benefit her. I think the most recent one was that she was fired for being pregnant. She actually resigned by her own choice. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/10/8/20904777/elizabeth-warren-pregnancy-discrimination-washington-free-beacon

Driver guy had a BAC of 0.19, so he was definitely getting the charges. 2 witnesses, including the driver, claimed this woman yanked the wheel. The judge decided the testimony of 2 drunk partiers was suspect enough that you couldn't convict. I'm not sure I agree, but I wasn't in the courtroom. "Reasonable doubt" is certainly within the realm of reasonable. Which is too bad if she did it, but that's how our system is supposed to work.

"We're obviously disappointed," said April Sims, co-chair of Washington Fairness, the coalition that led the effort to approve the referendum. "But we remain committed to equity, opportunity and fairness — and that means a level playing field for everyone in Washington state." And you know nothing says "level playing field" like judging people's value by their race and gender! /s

I'm not sure it's really fair to use this as an example of #METOO craziness. This lady was so delusional that she couldn't even make it though a simple business transaction without somebody noticing and flagging her. The guy at the ticket counter wouldn't let her on the plane. Then she when on a psychotic rant. It's the equivalent of ranting that the aliens are reading your mind. People with these kinds of mental illnesses always latch onto something in the zeitgeist and go crazy with it. You co…

I can't use the BBC player directly, and the only other place it seems to be available is some pirate sites. That's OK, I don't really need to watch it. I was just a bit mystified. I agree, that even if she intended to complain about voter turn-out, she could have done it in a less racist and sexist way. Normally someone would say something more like, "There was no one there but the poll-workers." or at least, "It was just the blokes working the polls."

Is there a video link for this? I'm not even sure what she's trying to say. Is it depressing because there aren't many voters? Or because the poll workers happened to be white guys? (She could volunteer!) I just don't get her point.

Maher's whole argument was that the kid got an erection so it wasn't rape? WTF? I can see how a woman could have that misconception, but how does a man not know that erections are an involuntary response?

Eh, like most disasters, a lot of small decisions that looked reasonable at the time turned out to be wrong. My understanding is the crew was under the impression that the SS Californian was going to come help, and so the lifeboats were just for ferrying people over to the other boat. So they didn't really need to be full. As it says, two officers understood the command to put women and children first differently, which would've been fine if the Californian had come and helped as expected. https…

Maybe I'm just naive, but to me this "running a train" stuff sounds like an urban legend/conspiracy theory. It reminds me of "rainbow parties" and "satanic sex/murder rituals" and other stories I've heard over the years about things that were "totally happening at these teenage parties!" Sure, a bad guy will drug a girl to rape her, and for a variety of reasons the girl may not report it. But I have a hard time imagining that you could commonly get 20 guys both willing to rape, and waiting in li…

Well, the problem with the investigation is that it is obviously a delaying tactic, and delay is the same as denial. And if you can stop any confirmation by having someone make an unprovable accusation, it's never going to end. Feinstien sat on the accusation for months, only to vaguely throw it out at the last possible instant. No one who cares about justice would handle a serious accusation that way. And, of course, what could a "full FBI investigation" turn up at this point? X number of drunk…

"implied that young boys raped each other in locker rooms all over the western world to train for raping women when they got strong enough." LOLWUT? That's kind of hilarious. Still, I can't imagine that belief is held by even 1% of the even most radical feminists.
