I guess that we just have very different homeless shelters near us. There are some that are single gender and usually deal with very specific cases (like parolees or drug addiction or homeless pregnant women). But for the most part, they take adults of either sex. A few of them take adults and children.

I've never actually heard of them being for sale (though I could be wrong), so I think they're more prototypes than anything. They're pretty old news though. They seem very dangerous and more likely to serve as a way to inflict serious bodily harm on your sex partner than a means of discouraging sexual assault.
