Used to live abroad in Europe for a while as well and had a much simpler time befriending guys platonically. I don't know what it was, it was a much clearer differentiation if they had other intentions. I returned to the US for my new job and didn't think much about this at all until I realized a lot of the male co workers who spoke to me had secret crushes and ulterior motives.
