Probably because it had Samantha, the strongest character in it. I was always Team Miranda but I'm solidly Team Samantha now after binging the whole of season one last week and starting on season two. She's bloody brilliant and I'm annoyed that I didn't appreciate her more before.

That's the bit that really jumped out at me. Did her family really cut her off or has he isolated her from her family and denied access to them so it's unlikely they know of or can help her situation? I think we all know the answer to that question.
