To be honest, I've never felt comfortable with labels. If I were to introduce myself I'd simply say "hi, I'm /u/apathos _ destroys". It has always seemed to me that people use political labels to identify who is in what camp. It promotes an "us vs. Them" mentality that takes attention away from the actual issues.

Not likely. According to feminists, they haven't done all that much in the last 100 years. Claiming victory means the fight is over.

In some cases, it's incredibly hard to leave an abuser. Even if the abuser is female. Threats of police action are very real, and any bruise on the woman may be interpreted as domestic violence. Threats about filing false rape reports, spreading lies among friends and relatives. Deception, emotional manipulation etc. This isn't to say that it's the case here, but those are typical symptoms in a relationship where the abusive partner is the female. Edit: redundancies.

As well as basic economics, entrepreneurship, trade skills, etc. I also think a much stronger approach to technology and programming is needed to encourage creativity in the field. More importantly, we need to get rid of bullshit courses we've convinced ourselves that we "need". My favorite: P.N.W. history. (Pacific NW. American class). That one class could have been folded into 1 month or less of any typical history class, but it was a required year long course. I see the value of history and k…

Anecdotal, but amusing: I've heard a couple of women outright claim they were more evolved than men. both times it came up as an "I'm just freaking amazing" type statement, but the ego involved? oh lordy lordy.

There are lots of women who love (playing) video games. What's frightfully less common are female game developers. Getting women into gaming means having a competitive gaming business built by and for women of all ages. Why their own companies? We can inject women into existing businesses until everything is 50/50 (or whatever ratio you'd like to come up with). So long as a man is in charge people will still say the industry suffers. Solution? Teach women to build businesses for themselves. Buil…

The quota is probably the worst insult to anyone who isn't actually sexist. "Congratulations, you're now part of our board of directors because: feminism. Don't worry, your skills and experience are enough to fill the role we have for you." There's two things that will likely happen as a result of quotas like this: unqualified people being hired A dilution of the responsibilities in a given position. Instead of simply handing out top level jobs, where is the encouragement to build competitive bu…

Anything that typically points out an increase of risk to a woman's life is considered offensive (politically, and to some, personally). There's a pervasive idea in feminism that all of a woman's actions are morally binding, and therefore unquestionable. Her body, her choice right? Typically that's a perfectly acceptable attitude, but when someone puts themselves in situations where risk factors are increased while demanding protection the argument loses strength. If you want to do what you want…

So apparently there is not only a demand for, but a market for Anti-male merchandise. This exists outside of the mrm influence. The feminists themselves could make their own brand, and sell to feminists to support their own cause. Whether or not the article is fake or not is irrelevant. It's worth noting that companies could conceivably profit manufacturing these items regardless of political stance. That MRA's could easily exploit this situation only really highlights the lack of any critical t…

This way if the police say "sorry, nothing to charge with", the colleges can still oust the guy, be heralded as protectorate of the chastity of their women while siphoning in the cash feminism brings to school. It's win win for the college. Male attendance is irrelevant when the majority of (scholarship)programs are for women.

The information itself isn't anti-feminist. This particular thread is of little political value, and it is in one of the nerve centers of the mrm. Considering that advocating for men on nearly any level is considered anti-feminist if not out right misogynistic (by feminist's own words, no less). Pointing out that men have problems too, even in domestic violence is seen as anti-feminist. Pleas for kindness ring false from people who wave flags of hatred. By this I mean: if one advocates for equal…

For anyone making the argument that it's largely social breakdowns that prevent women from desiring STEM jobs, I'd like to point out that the primary caregiver for children are the mothers. The mothers influence on her daughter at a young age is very important. Go ahead, tell them they're wrong. I've tried. It's on this note, I'd like to say I agree with Neil Degrasse Tyson. I'm happy it's an event born of its own desires. Had the same women simply joined the mrm, it might have been more politically divisive than helpful. Well, a lot of the stories are anecdotal in nature anyways, leaving them largely difficult to verify. Using screen shots in this sense would allow the poster to generate discussion on the subject (which I am assuming is the goal) without sending traffic and revenue to someone they disagree with. In terms of statistics and breaking down arguments, links to actual studies and or alternative links that provide more accurate information shouldn't really be discouraged.

The political flavor of the day is compartmentalization. Unfortunately, it puts people into opposing camps. You're a Democrat or a Republican, a feminist or a misogynist, a pro-lifer or an eater of babies. The list goes on. Political nuance died when the baby boomers were born.

Dressing up attractively and drinking aren't causal to rape, no. It's a matter of probability. Assuming that not all men are rapists, we can say that only a certain % of the total value do. When you increase your social activity in such a way you are encountering large numbers of people you don't know, the risk of being harmed increases. I think this is where the breakdown on the subject tends to happen. Telling a woman how she dresses or behaves is considered victim shaming because it's just as…

It's naive to kick a bear in the face, but you don't blame the bear for getting angry, do you? Before you tell me that people should be able to restrain themselves, why don't we start with (in context) the woman? Shouldn't she know better than to start hitting people? Ideally no one should have to hit anyone. But telling someone not to defend themselves? That's just mental, and is exactly the fucking reason why it's acceptable for a woman to hit a man.

I can agree with that. I do believe that many sexist ideals that Feminism supports leaks in bits and pieces. The most obvious being Schroedinger's rapist (I hope I used that correctly). No worries, I've actually been here a while now. I just don't spend all that much time writing. In all honesty, I view Christians and feminists very similarly. After talking to many people, I find the majority of supposed "feminists" are just people who were only ever told feminist dogma. What I think we are seeing, in terms of the vitriol spewed online, is a unique social phenomenon brought on by the steady March of technology. I didn't miss the point actually, I had an issue with your declaration that any self-proclaimed feminist hates men. You can say what you want about feminism itself, which does include patriarchy theory etc etc. But labeling self-proclaimed feminists as man haters can only either be used a shock phrase to pull attention to your point, or to broadly paint the members of it because you lack the drive to elaborate.
/r/MensRights26/06/14 09:41 PM

That's a bit of a black and white argument when there are self-proclaimed feminists who have become tired of the hate that does exist. Most people get sucked in by the "we need help" mantra of Feminism. I did, but my path away from it didn't take long. A few well placed questions toward myself with information to back it up is what led me to completely disavow it (a few years ago, now). In all honesty, making prostitution legal will help the women who have been victims come forward. It will also afford them the opportunity to negotiate their own prices, since the illegality of it can't be held against them. Take take take. Why is there no encouragement or education promoted for women to become entrepreneurs and start their own company. Wouldn't the status of raising a fortune 500 company from the ground up be much greater than simply taking a job because the company will face investigation if it doesn't hire women in top level positions (for whatever reason). Feminism attribute all of their problems to patriarchy and sexism. By extension this means all men. For men to say that they are disadvantaged in some way directly conflicts with the "we are women, we are oppressed" mantra. Neither side is capable of really supporting the other, and in an ideal world neither would exist. Feminism has corrupted itself, and the men's right movement is a response to that. If I had to choose, I would identify as a MGTOW. I wouldn't say MRA's are just "starry - eyed dreamers", nor would I say all of the methods used are innefective (though some certainly are). I see MRA's as a reaction to feminism, as a social movement. My biggest problem with that is philosophical. I think rights should be re - written to be applied to everyone, as basic human beings. MRA's advocate for equality while pushing for men's rights. A noble cause, but short - sighted.

As a result I have very solid, very level headed friends. (Now for the next bit!) I still hear girls being called sluts. Yes, it is in fact propagated by women. I've heard men use the term, but it seems much rarer and without the vitriol another woman would use. That's probably why some guys will say "it's just the gi…

My ex girlfriend loves this song. When she asked me why i hate it, I just started singing (with another guy making lyrics up with me) If I were a girl... (Ok ok, it was pretty funny, but a little tasteless for here maybe. But that just shows how tasteless the song itself is)

That reminded me of something I said a few years ago. I was talking about a vacation I was going to take out of state to visit a friend of mine. Woman a little brusque and lady a little unreachable for most of the women I knew at the time. Without thinking I said "I'm visiting a female friend" apparently, that was the wrong thing to say. All votes are essentially meaningless as a guide to "how realistic" an opinion or how popular an idea is. That's a long, well written way to say women are children. How can she agree with the idea that she's more "socially controlled" yet have the agency to fight against perceived oppression? Wouldn't she be just as likely "socially controlled" by feminism's infantilizing rhetoric?
/r/MensRights26/05/14 01:20 PM
2

I think in general there is this attitude of "I don't have to teach my children, that's for schools" that pervades society. It affects everyone. There are many things schools can't effectively teach about living life. This isn't about "stupid gullible women" (which is a very poor way to view what I wrote), this is about the quagmire of self identity, how to teach it, and who is "responsible" for it.
/r/MensRights25/05/14 05:35 PM
3

Part of the problem involves the lack of self awareness and general lack of agency taught to many girls. Magazines capitalize on this by using confusing information that "sounds true enough". I'm in the middle on this honestly, I can't reasonably expect everyone to be self aware.

Indeed, I find anger to be very important to change. However, that is easily the biggest pitfall into a den of bigotry.

Being considered controversial is a pretty big step up from "laughable". /r/mensrights is gaining a voice in the world, of course it will be controversial as it rises. It's the job of the redditors involved to keep the subreddit the bastion of information it is. /r/mensrights doesn't have to be angry. It doesn't have to be impatient. It does need to keep accurate information (for better or worse), otherwise credibility goes out the window. I don't see this as an issue at all, really.

It's been shown that the judiciary system is harder on men than on women across the board. Why would you expect the harshest punishment to be any less biased?

Indeed. I don't doubt there's brigading going on. At the same time I wouldn't go so far to say it's an mra thing. When you operate a sub with the emotional fortitude of cheese cloth, you can expect trolls to happen along.

This post could have been more interesting without the "petty personal revenge" stance. At least you called yourself out for it. I don't know what the subscriber base for each subreddit is, but I would suspect that only a small percentage of active mensrights posters post/vote on /r/feminism . The accusation of brigading without clear evidence raises suspicions of course. Maybe the hate is finally starting to sour the sub (much in the same way bigotry and hate have eroded religions' grasp).

So, instead of involving the police, who can gather evidence and make an arrest; they choose this? The only message I'm seeing out of this is: "our definition of rape is so fluid like that it isn't worth calling the police, so we'll start rumors."

I don't think anything should be banned, censorship is a road paved with daggers. I would support X - posting to another subreddit more appropriate to karma - baited posts. When I first came to /r/mensrights I needed a lot more information than what I had been presented on youtube. Yes, seeing posts like these can be tiring to long time posters. As a new member though? I really appreciated seeing just how fractured and irrational feminism is, it allowed me to cement answers to questions I had at the time. Hmm I wasn't so much trying to define feminism as I was trying to ascertain it's direction. With so many dissenting and opposing views it comes across a fractured mess in my mind. As far as people like Anita? They're just snake - oil vendors to me. The one thing I have noticed is how often prominent feminist leaders are quoted and used as the go to gurus of all things sexual. Thanks for the reply, as far as understanding goes: I've always tried to look at the bigger picture, to see how all of the pieces come together etc. To me, feminism is often like a thick fog, directionless, opaque, and mysterious. I'll likely never fully understand, but it won't stop me from pulling out my lab coat and testing a few ideas (figuratively).

Thank you for replying. It's certainly an interesting answer, though I don't really have a response to it yet. I think I'm going to do some more research on it. Hmm...well, the last bit of what you said sums up my confusion over the matter. I see two main fronts to this...women, who make a decision for themselves in a given situation (example: making the choice to put makeup on. Bad example, but it's late) I've seen women (not all in one discussion)both say a woman putting on makeup can be either oppression, or expression of her own empowerment. I've also read stories of women who have attained success, only to have that success accredited to feminism, …

Out of curiosity typhon, have you ever challenged a feminist (or had a discussion with) about the agency issue? I've been wondering about it for some time, but I've only heard speculation from non - feminists. More specifically, I'm interested in the contrasted views of empowerment vs victim attitudes and how feminism often writes off another woman's decision (or accolades!) No, bossy isn't a gendered term, but that doesn't stop feminists from claiming it is. Ffs I read an article about how gender identities can be found at a cellular level today. I find this sort of magical thinking the exact same as someone trying to convince me god was watching over Tim tebow

It's a poorly thought out reaction to feminist behavior, in my opinion. Most people have never heard of the word parthenogenesis, let alone understand it. Imo, if women create a female sperm, that's fine with me. I don't see it as "the end of men"...In fact, I see people with that attitude to be entirely sensationalist. It's not very often I get a laugh out of a feminist oriented article. Not going to lie: I'm somewhat for this. I mean hell, why not? She's trying to make the point that objectification of women is bad. Which it can be, but you can take just about anything too far. My reaction to it was: "go ahead, stare at my junk. Well yes, they would have much in common. Though in my imagined scenario, I wouldn't see suffragettes agreeing with everything modern feminists argued about. This would naturally cause a divide, and eventually the outcome I imagined would come to pass.

That was both exactly what I expected, yet hoped not to read. The part I find funny is that you could probably stick a group of the original suffragettes and a group of modern feminists in a room. Just how long do you think it would take a small subset of women to kill all men? Do you think men would just "let it happen?" Remember, they're idolizing gender genocide (don't know if there's a more specific word) to satisfy the darkness in their minds. What I don't understand is the idea of killing off an entire gender would reduce the gene pool so devastatingly that even with cloning the entire race could snuff itself out. Sorry, I'm going to take a line from dragon's den: "you have an idea, not a business. Talk to me when you have a business." Personally, I probably would donate to a company that actually helped men...however, your time is not now. I kind of wonder what anthropologists 2-500 years from now will say about feminist lies. Will they be written off as a radical movement? Will they attain a dark empire status? Humans of the future (assuming we still exist) will look back on these times and shake their head, in my opinion. Just as I do today. I just wonder though, what kind of world politicians must live in...to either be stupid enough to believe it all, or to be smart enough to pretend to believe it. Some part of me hopes that s…

It seems little by little, the gynocentric political rhetoric is that women can't consent, even when the law says they can. It seems a bit of a stretch now, but I honestly don't see things getting better any time soon. My advice? Buy stock in male sex toys. (Tongue in cheek post, yeah? )

You're still missing my point. It has to be repeated, over time and with intent. Is that not so hard to see? Having personal standards is great and all, but you can't have a healthy relationship where all you focus on is your own feelings and problems. At some point, your partner has to matter.
/r/MensRights01/02/14 01:24 AM

Don't conflate a business transaction with a relationship dude. It's not even nearly the same. The key is the relationship the two parties have. Without that it's essentially a 0 sum game.

The biggest problem I've always found in arguments like these is that equality should be an opportunity to have equal representation. Forcing a 50/50 mix isn't equality, it's numbers fudging. Imagine replacing half of a construction company in the name of equality. Chances are, some, if not most of the forced hires wouldn't have been hired on their own merit anyways. Quality and production goes down, but hey, they're equal!

If you're in a long term relationship and your partner says no repeatedly for reasons unjustifiable (not medical etc) is it really a full relationship at that point? Imagine being told no for a handful of months for little more reason than "I don't feel like it". That's digressing from my main point, however. If you withhold sex from your partner until they perform some act or deed to earn your favor, and therefore sex, then it is abuse. Manipulation for personal gains isn't healthy in a relatio…

It's a bit sensationalist (with good reason), but feminists have been denying women their own agency for years. You can say a woman is empowered right until she has a drink and does something she may or may not have planned to. That's the obvious example, but it goes further. We aren't supposed to expect women to take care of their own feelings. While men are told to "Man up", women are frequently encouraged to "let it out." Possibly intentionally. Without the agency to act on their own behalf, a woman's opinion or fears wouldn't be "as damaging". MRA: Something needs to be done. Discuss. Feminism: Something needs to be discussed. You need to do it.

Reading the comments (under the article) was like watching two schizo-conspiracy theorists try to out-tin foil hat. Best part was "emily's" response to him "you're crazy and probably gay" Edit: because being homosexual is still evil, right feminism? Who needs LGBT /s

Ass cancer knows no gender. And assholes are all the same. So tell me now how a woman's ass is different from a guys, because I'd like to know.

I facepalmed at "invention of motherhood". You know you're digging deep when a biological function is championed as an invention.

Do you really need a bunch of girls idolizing a serial killer to make tge point though? Male disposability has been covered, it has been institutionalized. My beef is with r/mensrights and its propensity to wave fingers at every female bigot and scream "feminism bad". Opinions shouldn't be discouraged, even nutjob beliefs like those girls have. Actions should be. The killer was dealt with, who cares if she had fans? Lots of killers do. She didn't kill as a result of feminism, she wasn't making a…

Seriously r/mensrights? What does this post even prove? That some stupid, heartless girls are lamenting the death of a serial killer? So what. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even hateful, bigoted fucks like the KKK. The serial killer was dealt with. This is not a r/mensrights issue.

I dunno, I think taking "feminist" issues and readdressing them in gender neutral tones is probably the easiest way to achieve some sort of legal equality. After all, feminism has been doing it for a while, why shouldn't men? Reappropriate, redefine and bring about some equality yeah?

You're a man. You don't need scholarships, just man up and do it. Hyperagency is a bitch, ain't it?

So this high-school level article is worthy of a r/mensrights post? Why don't we pick apart cosmo sex tips? At least they're funny. This is just sad and boring.

I've read a little about buddhism, but I think I just realised I'm more of a buddhist than I thought. (After reading your post). I've always been fond of buddhism's detatchment, I didn't think my views mirrored it though. TLDR today I learned I'll always have a future as a fat, bald, but happy man.

Think about it. Feminists say that women have no agency of their own, yeah? So in order for feminism to get anywhere, they have to get men to do it for them. The fact that some men have made money from it must certainly make some frowny-faced feminists.

Lol so....don't say anything, unless it's to stop other men from sayong things...so I'm a great feminist because I don't talk to them? L o l. And mansplaining..seriously? "Hey, I think you interpreted something inccorrectly, but enlightening you is sexist, so enjoy ignorance :) " Edit: btw, what woman has been barred from college in the last 10 years? 20? I haven't heard of any, can we get a source? The entire article raises issues that feminism isn't currently equipped to address, like sex traf…

I can't believe I made it halfway through. I've never had an article personally offend me so much as this. Women: hear it loud and clear, you are NOT responsible for your own actions, you are NOT capable of making your own decisions. Society is saying loud and clear that you're less than human...but it's ok, you are, after all, just a woman. /sarcasm

Ugh....I lament our species whenever I hear a woman cry "act like a man!". I'm not paid to make women comfortable. I don't have to look at them, smile or use body language. Most people are generally invisible to me as I have something to do, rather than someone. This incessant paranoia of whether or not im sexually interested in every passing vagina is ridiculous. I have little interest in other people largely because of women's fears. Thanks feminism.

Oooh, I'm a troll now? Scary. I don't give a fuck where you live. America's dirty laundry has been aired to the world, so anyone can read. In fact, with all of the propaganda the us mills out you don't think an "outsiders" (since I'm being labeled as such). Also, you never answered my question ..instead you went tit for tat with what you view as a troll. Do I win the internet? No. Do I care? No. At this point you're just going to quote everything I say and dissect it without ever using your head…

You're right, nothing I've said justifies my belief (or lack thereof) in putting women in power. Since this has developed into a quasi-pissing contest, I'll let you in on something: mensrights threads are boring and predictable. Whiny men pointing fingers and yelling "feminism bad" without any thoughtful discourse. All I wanted to do was ask questions people don't like and see where it goes. Or do you really believe I'm some nutjob advocating for women for no reason other than "why not?". A deli…

I spent several years in the states, I know just how many legal and monetary systems boost their inclusion in not only in the work force, but as the sole guardians of children. Titls IX itself is one of the worst well-intentioned programs in existence. Yeah, police have military gear...you didn't notice the decidedly fascist turn with the patriot act? Of course women had a hand in creating and or maintaining some of those systems, but it's still overwhelmingly male. Men count for the majority of…

Too lackluster to quote, ill just reply. On your "infrastructures for enslaving populations", "feminized men who won't fight back", and "predator drones" comments.... just who do you think created those systems? How many men are behind drones. Also, you've convinced yourself that men are too feminized to fight for themselves....men created and maintained these systems, the styles of fighting, killing, and technology that supports it. Do you really belive that the "feminised" men will simply fall…

At the same time, what's the worst women can do? Even if they militarize and criminalize masculinity, they have to contend with an indigenous population of men. What occupying force can last against a determined indigenous population? So what if thry blame us. If they have the reigns, they have the responsibility. Either they make things better, or they fuck it up so bad no woman would want power. Either way can work to bring some equity to tired debates of what men are doing wrong and why women…

Hey, if guys running the government fucked it up...why not let women take over for a while? It's really hard to argue the point that women could do worse than america is doing right now....so why not? In the interest of social-science let's give it a shot. At least we wouldn't be blamed as a group for what a handful of backwards-ass polticial badgers have done. Also: why oh hell no? Aprehension over letting women take over? Are women not qualified in your mind? Why not? We could dispell a lot of…

Why not? Why not give women credit? Clearly the only way the country will move forward is if we continue propping every woman who puts in some effort. It's no longer about guys or patriarchy. Its time to give women the keys and see what happens. The rest is useless bitching. Society wants women to run the world? Let'm. Tired arguments over gender need some air to clear the bullshit. So let women have it all.

Tbh I don't see this as a men's rights issue. The wording us business like, and a little condescending, but the exact same could be said about potential girlfriends. In fact, having "trials" before a long term relationship sounds like prudent advice. All of that aside, you could write it off as "she's a little demanding with a twisted sense of humor." Not really much get up in arms about

I honestly don't know what's worse: that this happened (and happens frequently of late) or that it will get much worse in the next few years.
