I think it's also the smartphone that caused such a drastic change. Those in the 80's didn't have them until fully matured. They did experience Internet, but not in the 24/7 instant gratification way we see now. Kids have them now from a young age and base their existence around them now, so it's caused a massive shift in attitude in such a short period of time.

The 6-8 guys these days is a rough place to be for those interested in women. Smartphones/dating apps changed the world with their overabundance and made the average man invisible.
