if you have a couch or a spare room you could list your place on airbnb and couchsurfing.com, and be a host/concierge/tour guide for your guests. i don't mean to imply that couchsurfing is a hookup site; i've never had sex with anyone i met that way, but it breaks down some of the usual social barriers. have you tried fetlife? most cities have some sort of semiunderground swinger scene, and going to a few munches is a way to get invited to play parties.

it's not feasible quite yet, but i'd like to accept your challenge. people underestimate how undateable i am. i'm the kind of guy who can't get laid at a gay bathhouse. i've been turned down by hookers. old, ugly, shy , cheap, no game, mildly mentally ill. i plan someday to go to asia and search for a spouse and spend some time in a buddhist monastery. too broke and scared for now.

one thing that works for me is strip clubs. it's a setting where, as a job, women (also men, i'm bi) are going to come over and talk to me for $1 or a drink,and i get to practice those basic social interactions that i would be too shy to have at just some bar. it's completely fake, ok maybe 90%, i actually made a few friends with strippers over the years, but you should assume it's fake. but you get to practice social interactions with hot sexy women (and some less so) until it seems more normal…

Check the medical tourism thread on /r/frugal a month or so ago. R/frugal is a good place to hang out, i meant to mention it. Hatha yoga, what americans think of as yoga, is one of only 8 forms of yoga. Prana yoga focuses on breathing. Bhakti yoga is about doing good works, and accumulating meaningless karma points. Good post. I agree with most of what you say. Ten years ago my plan was to double my money in the stock market and retire to thailand. Ended up losing it all instead, so I still haven't been. It'll probably take me another 10 years, but I could make a goal of a shorter trip sooner. What I'd like to do would be to go to a monastery for a few months, but I dont know if they are set up to take someone who doesn't speak thai.
