The key is to understand that women are human beings, just like men, and that they have the same desires for a happy and fulfilling life as we do. Regardless of where they are from, women also desire respect and to be treated appropriately in marriage. I think American men make a mistake assuming foreign women will put up with poor treatment in a long term relationship. At the end of the day, human beings everywhere want to be loved, and to be seen. American men tend to have trouble seeing thems…

I agree that men can be jerks in our own ways

I find it hilarious that women on this thread can say with a straight face, “unless you’re hot, this won’t work” It’s incredibly revealing that women will accept anything from attractive men, but if men are less than the top 10%, all of a sudden women find they have boundaries and expectations. Yes, men can see right through this double standard. It also tells men they aren’t worthy of love unless they put on a show

Dude, you’re going to make me cry. I wish she cared, too. Best of luck, whatever happens

I made some big mistakes. I couldn’t get her to break up over our differences. She would say that just because a book on relationships said ours was unhealthy doesn’t mean anything and I was overthinking. I began to doubt myself and what I wanted from life. First mistake. The big mistake was thinking that if I became a jerk and stopped caring about her, she’d realize we should breakup. The truth is, it worked, but it took several years of not being myself for her to cheat on me. It took so long,…

I had a great job, income, a plan, and a vision. She was unemployed and wanted a smartphone. She thought my ideas about economics and delayed gratification were dumb. She didn't want to go along with my plans even though it was my plan and my success that attracted her to me. That was the biggest problem, arguing with someone who didn't get it about why it was important to be smart about life and money. I felt disrespected because I worked hard to develop and implement my plan, yet here was the …

I joined a men's group while going through divorce and have been active in it for the years since. It was really helpful for me in managing my feelings, and getting a better sense of who I am as a man going forward. The group I joined is part of the ManKind Project, mankindproject.org. We currently meet primarily online due to the Covid situation. I'm sure it's rough now, but you'll get through this. Hang in there!

First of all, thank you for your service. It's a shame you have to deal with this in addition to attending to your duties. Second, you need some help. You have several things on your plate, and it will be important to distinguish between what you can influence, and what you can't so that you can prioritize. Lawyers are expensive, but it sounds like you might need one. Figure out how you might be able to afford one. I have no idea whether or not the service provides you some access to attorney se…

Exactly my issue. Wasn't happy for years in the relationship, but cannabis helped me remain content. When I was sober, I would tend to want a divorce. I would smoke to get rid of those feelings, because she was so committed. Then she gave up. Smoking more frequently to get through this divorce. I don't want to hate her because I don't want to hate. At the same time I have to watch out for internalizing that and getting depressed instead. Biggest thing for me to overcome is the pain I put myself …

I believe the word you are looking for is "estranged".

Sorry to hear, man. Her fault, your fault, or no fault? My parents were divorced and I know firsthand that it's tough growing up like this. At the same time, an unhappy marriage isn't exactly good for kids, either. I'm going through divorce, too, but no kids. I offered to not pursue divorce, but she wants her own life. I can't beg someone who hurt me to come back.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
