Yeah, from experience this is to give her a head start on the narrative. You're right to think this is off. I agreed to not tell the kids until we could do it together but that was it. I also didn't want a divorce but I also knew it was over and told her that I needed support and since getting it from her was no longer an option I was not going to limit my support options to make things easier for her and her new partner.

It's hard because weve been trained by TV and social media to "win" the conversation with quips and barbs, and while those feel good in the moment (I've done it plenty of times), there is so much more to lose than to be gained by letting it out in the moment. Sometimes it takes everything in me to remember "Think of them. Think of your future." It's not worth a short term win if it gives her further motivation to not play nice. My ex brother in law had a divorce that was very contentious and it …

This is an encouraging story. I'm just getting to that place after trying the apps and realizing after my last relationship from there that maybe it is ok to be on my own. Once I realized the freedom I now have, it's been a huge breakthrough. I can enjoy the half of the time when I'm with the kids taking lead on activities there, and the other have I can do whatever I want. It gets better.

I don't have much to add that hasnt already been said, but I had a similar story to yours and i felt the same way early on. It's totally normal to feel like this, even if you know it's not really true. Juat keep moving forward and know it will get easier but it will take time. Make yourself do it even when it feels numb and meaningless. Keep showing up. For work. For your kids. For you. You'll get there. Give yourself some grace and some time. And when you reach the anger stage, and you will rea…

Wow, man. My ex and I went through some similar health stuff. Nothing that extreme but she still decided she was better off without me. It's hard to process that being alone and sick is better than being with a partner that's trying and sick. Glad it wasn't just me. Sorry you had to go through that.

I feel that a lot. I try to steer discussion around and away frok what happens at their mom's. When I get angry I think of my kids, and how things I've said and done when angry have never played out well long term. I think about what effects my actions could have on them and that keeps me in check. I also remember that the best revenge is living well, and any time I can find anything positive to cling to, I use it because every time I can do that and keep moving forward means the shadow of what …

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
