It's strange how difficult it is for some to understand that when someone talks about preventative measures they're not saying rape is OK or that they themselves would rape anyone. What they're saying is that there are people out there who think rape is OK and who do rape. By recommending preventative measures, they're not saying that we should have a rape culture or whatever. They're saying that for some people out there, rape is something they do. That's not OK. Of course it isn't. But it's re…

It's when I read articles like this that it becomes clear to me how big a loss that loss of shame has been for Western culture. The author should be ashamed of her emotions, not publicize them in an article.

So I went and watched her video. Clearly she crossed a line with it and so on. But at the end of the day she's just exposing herself as a vindictive, sanctimonious idiot with no sense of humour who instead of arguing her case attempts to assassinate her opponent's character. That might get her pats on the back among her equally idiotic peers, but to all reasonable people it's clear evidence that she's a creep who can't be taken seriously. She undermines her own credibility and cause in the long …

What an asshole. If the authorities were in the wrong, he could have sued. If they were right, he was an even bigger asshole. Not paying child support and then betraying your kid one more time by killing yourself? Asshole.

I wish I had something more eloquent to offer, but, really, I don't care. F*ck Piers Morgan.

I can totally respect that. Personally, I came to a decision a couple of years ago, when my daughter was little, that I would censor myself in that regard, because no pedophile can hurt any of my kids by seeing their photo online. They are only hurting themselves by feeding their perversion (and - God forbid - victims that they might get their hands on by indulging in that perversion). Obviously, I don't post tons of nude photos on Facebook or whatever, but there are topless photos, diaper-only,…

Do you have kids? Because all of those scenes are perfectly normal. Like taking a bath with your kid or letting them play around naked.

It's within every person's right to defend themselves, but a stronger person should always show restraint towards a weaker one. That's the principle underlying the rule that men shouldn't do violence towards women. So yeah, I would, with the caveats and nuances necessary to the specific situation (how weak or strong is the woman attacking you, how does the confrontation develop, is she armed, are the authorities in the vicinity, etc.).

Dude. What on Earth are you on about? Every human is human, and the safety and well-being of every human counts because every human is valuable. Their value is not proportional to how large a part they make up of the total human population. Every person is valuable in and of themselves, because they're human and, I believe, because they are created by God. I think every person has a responsibility to protect those who are weaker. Because men are generally stronger physically, a greater responsib…

I don't think they're weak. I think they're physically weaker generally than men.

Why would these big girls need to carry a "fucking" tazer if physical strength isn't a factor in violent confrontation? And your point about population is ominous. Are you saying that people are expendable in proportion to how big the population is? That human value is measuring relative to population size? That's pretty dark, mate.

Of course. People shouldn't go around hitting each other. But I think an underlying principle of proportionality means that it's more serious for a stronger person to hit a weaker one than the other way around. To move away from the gender stuff, it's much more serious for a parent to hit a child than the other way around. That doesn't mean that it's OK for children to hit their parents, obviously not. But it's more grievous for a father to respond in kind than it is for a son to hit his father.…

People have the responsibility of each other's safety. If a woman can do something to help a man in a violent situation, she should do so. Thing is, given men's comparably larger physical strength (coupled with bigger size, etc.), the expectation is more geared towards men. I don't see a problem with that.

Did you even read what I said? I said the general rule he was quoting is good, but that he hadn't thought it through. In other words, the rule is a good idea in most situations, but not this one.

Yeah, of course. But a male attacker would generally be more dangerous than a female one given his comparatively larger strength. And a man defending himself from an attacker will generally be more successful than a woman doing so, again because of comparatively larger strength. Another important factor is comparatively larger strength makes it more likely both for a man to be an attacker and for a man to be a defender if he witnesses violence. Anyways. My point is that if you're stronger or for…

That's a fair point. And it's true, I haven't been in a lot of fights. But all things being equal, wouldn't it be fair to say that men are generally better off in a violent situation than women generally are?

Looking out for someone and being prepared to defend them should they be wrongly attacked is not to treat them as overgrown children. It's taking responsibility for our shared existence. I hope people, be they stronger than me or not, look out for me in the same way.

As a general principle, "Men should not hit women" is a good idea. Men are generally physically stronger than women and the strong should always restrain themselves over against the weak. But it's also the responsibility of the strong to protect the weak, especially those closest to themselves. If someone attacks your daughter, it's your moral responsibility as a strong person and as a parent to stop them, by force if necessary. So the commenter is on to something, but clearly hasn't thought it …
