I've read that there is a spectrum of attachment style, which goes from Secure attachment at one end, with Avoidant at the other, and Anxious in between, like this: [ Secure - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Anxious - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Avoidant ] They say you need to pass through Anxious to get to Secure (the healthiest state). Fearful is also known as 'disorganized' which means it's harder to place but it's somewhere around avoidant because it's another type of avoidance. Actually, anxious, f…

100% agree. Surprise, WSJ, women also care about the class divide. Also I suspect this headline might just be trying to get people to sell. It just looks suspicious to me.

I agree that no one should change their life/hobbies to find a partner, because that's a mentality more focused on finding a partnership rather than connecting with an individual person with less pressure. But I wouldn't say it's just luck. Through therapy I've discovered that despite meeting TONS of men and feeling like I was interested, present, and wanting intimacy with them, I actually was emotionally closed off. I was afraid to fail at certain things. To use your example, happy hour filled …

I suspect people who are worried about having too-high standards often have standards that are actually a bit too low. I think when you meet a HVM you'll feel blown away and won't even have to think twice about his behavior toward you because you'll be treated like a queen.

This is a great analysis. Have you considered writing this to Heather? I've read a lot of her articles and some more recent ones seem to be pretty pro-FDS, though there are little things I disagree with on occasion or otherwise find too vague.

It's a horrifically cruel thing to do to someone. Men shouldn't act like this. But on the other hand, she's a grown woman and needs to protect herself from toxic people and especially her child/potential children from having a shitty father. I'd say she's almost as bad as him for letting her kid have a dad like that. I'm sure she didn't do it on purpose, and I'm sure he's not trying to be shitty on purpose either, but the fact still stands that everyone loses in this scenario.

Well... but... everyone has different tastes. People are attracted to people who are approximately as attractive as them. I mean, there are many adored celebrities I find off-putting. I'm not conventional and I'm not attracted to conventional. People in general just need to take better care of their mental and physical health and appearance (eat well, exercise, dress carefully). But don't date someone you're not attracted to. I agree that the problem is rooted in the patriarchy which causes pick…

Thank you for saying that! Sometimes I start to doubt myself because the societal messages get so overwhelming.

I stopped shaving in college after seeing other beautiful, confident girls who didn't. I thought they were so badass. :) I have had many people get upset with me to my face that I don't shave. My family hates it, but they also just don't accept me. So yeah, it sucks. It's extremely hard to just be a normal adult woman. Everyone's angry at you for literally no reason. But the guys who have been completely in love with me absolutely didn't care and loved me for it, because it's part of who I am. I…

Thank you for this reminder. I just dropped a guy who wasn't putting in NEARLY enough effort. I actually told him so before I left and he was upset and tried to make it seem like I was asking for too much. His response was actually so absurd and out-of-touch, it confirmed that it's absolute no loss on my part and a huge loss for him because he 'really likes' me. Okay lmao then show it, dumbass. I feel soooo much better/freer without him.

Constant access to sex was also a big reason why I dated those guys. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The sex wasn't good obviously but like I said, I was sad, lonely, desperate, and a person who acted shitty to people at the time.

They pursued me. This was when I was in college. I think they were partly just into the fact that I was emotionally unavailable. Surprisingly these relationships lasted like 3-10 months so they weren't insignificant.

When I was a lot younger and unhealthier I, a female person, did sometimes date guys I wasn't very interested in because it was "better than nothing". The reason that I got into those relationships was because I was extremely miserable, couldn't stand to be on my own, and had a self-destructive victim mentality. I suspect that's what's going on with this guy. If I had just stayed single during those times that I was so desperate I'd have gotten to a better place much sooner, but I wasted years l…

This may be controversial to say but there is so much wrong with this post. I truly don't think casual sex is good or healthy for anyone. Sex is necessarily intimate. Otherwise it's just using a human being to essentially masturbate, and that's messed up. And I don't understand this rating system of 7's and 10's and it's honestly gross to put it that way. Who exactly is ugly? Who is hot? I've met conventionally-attractive-by-Western-standards guys who I'm completely repulsed by, because who a pe…

Boundaries are essential, good, and everyone needs them. I didn't say that they're for insecure people. (I mean, most insecure people have poor boundaries.) What I mean to say is that in a relationship, if there is even an issue like this years down the line where you need to 'set an ultimatum'... just do yourself a favor and leave because 'communication' isn't going to help. "I want kids." "I don't." "Okay, we're not compatible, goodbye." There's no ultimatum there. It's just a conversation abo…

I said what the guy is doing is testing. I didn't say it's good! I also am not implying boundaries are bad. Everyone needs boundaries. But if you find yourself needing to set a strict boundary with someone BECAUSE they are crossing it it's probably because the boundary-crosser is toxic.

Well, yes, he's testing her because he doesn't trust her love. He's testing her to gain proof that she truly cares about him, marriage or not. Engagement ultimatums have no place in healthy relationships. If a partner feels the need to set one, the relationship's already over. If one partner even has to set a strict boundary because the other partner is prone to crossing boundaries, that's a red flag. Healthy partners are normally attuned to one another's needs and communicate openly before it e…

"do you still want to spend the rest of your life with me?" He just doesn't trust her love, simple as that. It sounds like he's deeply insecure and is worried that the marriage will fail if he makes that commitment to her. People like this almost never change, especially not without intensive therapy (and probably hitting rock-bottom first).

These are great examples that show that he essentially picks something insightful-sounding and extrapolates it to fit his superiority/inferiority complex / cognitively distorted personal worldview. The 'women longing for male dominance' thing, for example. The thing is, that this argument is composed of a couple partial-truths that he generalizes out to cover his argument for what the nature of femininity is. It's ultimately a half baked idea but it's spicy as hell, so his followers get so excit…

Jordan Peterson isn't legitimately smart in the sense of being logical and intelligent. He is however, good at using a convincing-sounding tone of voice and some buzzwords/phrases that manipulate people who are feeling lost and looking for a manual in life. He's really quite confused, ultimately. I suspect he has some sort of deep insecurity going on that prevents him from seeing how things really are. He doesn't back up his arguments well––his arguments are cyclical. He doesn't understand what …

I really wish more women would just stop performing the femininity that they don't truly want to perform, particularly the stuff that's scary to stop doing, like shaving. Men/women/other people will only love you if you are your authentic self. I think it's not true to your authenticity if you're wearing makeup and shaving and wearing dresses because that's what you know others want to see. When I see a gorgeous woman who takes immaculate care of herself and she's also not performing femininity …

both of them actually have very good husbands who love them and are committed but it just shows how unfair having a family is to women. Even with the most favorable circumstances it still leaves them pulling an unfair and untenable amount of work. Even if you “win” by getting a guy who loves you and helps, you’re still likely to struggle and have resentment because of how the game is rigged against women and basically leaves them with an impossible burden. No. This is not a 'good husband'. I don…

I've only ever wanted backups when I was in a relationship that felt fragile. Do you fear that your bf might up and leave at any second? Because you won't want backups when you're with someone who's truly there for you.

I don't think that these types of guys even have 'dreamgirls' that exist in real life. No one who would treat someone this badly could be a good partner to anyone else.

A few guys I dated *specifically* ASKED to take pictures of me. Or they just took candid shots that were cute. They were pretty nice pictures and it was really sweet. Guys who want to have pictures of you to look at and to give pictures of yourself to you are out there and if that's important to you absolutely don't settle for less. I have many exes who wouldn't ever take pictures of me and it's like... what's the point, then?

Okay I don't believe in the concept of 'leagues' but... Olivia is like obnoxiously more attractive than him and her former spouse. And also these dudes are too old for her.

Could you elaborate more about what you've been reading that it does to hormones? I'm curious mostly because doctors keep trying to push BC on me. I've tried 7 different brands/types and the side effects are always really unfortunate (mostly acne, nausea, and headaches). I wish more doctors understood that altering your hormones isn't pleasant for many people.

this is pretty cringey. you can want all that, sure. i mean, many, many people want the life he's described. but like... be impressed with actions, not words.

In my opinion, my gut feeling says that LV is just not worth it. Thanks to discovering FDS a month or two ago, I realized that I'm unfortunately attracted to LV people in all aspects of life. If someone is just very slightly LV sometimes, then maybe that's fine with some distance, but in general people with low self confidence are probably going to be pretty unintentionally toxic. My friends are not ready for FDS yet and are obsessed with guys who are LV/NV and it literally affects every aspect …
