I was at first, but then I realize that cabinet appointments historically have hardly been based on merit. Trudeau picked very meritorious individuals to fill these seats. What I'm more worried about is that this may set a precedent (or God-forbid a convention) for future PMs to pick their cabinets based on gender quotas, instead of merit.

I think the actual effect is that these statistics have no meaning due to the nature of the government that's reporting them.

If I move into a bad suburb of Detroit and don't buy a lock for my front door because buying a lock is victim blaming, people shouldn't rob houses, do you think I'd get any sympathy? It's an interesting parallel.

Yep, no stats offered by this particular individual. I still have my lecture slides from that course, some points: Concerned with issues of power, distributions of resources Explain gendered nature of crime Focuses on inequalities within the law Law is key in subordination of women

This sums up the "feminist criminology" section of my Sociology 101 class. Mind you the prof was pretty apeshit (a lot of the lectures I went to ended up sounding like rallies), but I still steered clear of Sociology after that.

I'm very curious about this - why aren't these people brought up on perjury charges?

I know the first and possibly second wave feminists were definitely conservative. However the modern feminist movement (third wave?) from what I've seen tends to be heavily on the left.

Funny example, just be very careful of making strawman arguments there mate. Tumblr is famous for that. Beat em, don't join em!

I just got this from excerpts from MacLean's... “There’s a difference between equality of opportunity and equality of result". I like this a lot.

My dad is my best friend and my father. I try to stay in daily contact with him, even if it's just a few texts back and forth (studying hard in university). I feel very, very lucky.
