I was afraid of rejoining this subreddit after becoming newly single, because of the underlying dehumanizing tone I've seen before, but comments like these are encouraging.

All of college, I was friends with rather conservative Muslims. Given that I was not Muslim, I was never a part of their romantic interests. Once I hit grad school, I found a much more diverse group of friends. To begin, I had already started reading this forum, and decided to dress better. I have a slim build, so I started dressing in Banana Republic chinos, mocassins (driver shoes), casual dress shirts (lot of H&M, lot of Ross [don't have a lot of money]), and a Zara jacket or two. My main poi…

I find that confident people (that were not normally so) attribute their position to two scenarios: they suddenly found themselves in more positive environments that boosted what they thought of themselves, or they made changes to their behavior which began a cyclical loop of positive reinforcement. I begin with the latter, because it's the only thing under your control. Change both your dress (sharper) and posture (straighter, shoulders a bit back). Eat better and healthier. Exercise. Practice …

Interesting. As to outcome independence, I disagree. I expect them to be attracted to me, and I ward off disappointment by just assuming they didn't know any better.

This is great! And yea, I know about Vitamin D. I run shirtless for 30 minutes a day with no sunscreen (I'm brown) so it works great for that. But yes, your post is quite on.

Explain why. I like the idea, but expound it, please.

Thank you, you've made me feel better about myself. I have learned through being pushed to the limits of my extroversion that I enjoy a chill lifestyle. I do, however, enjoy doing things while I chill, otherwise, I'll bore easily.

Ah, then it seems we agree!

I think what you missed at the end there that nothing isn't nothing in itself. In essence, catching up with yourself is a necessary part of living. Some do it more than others.

I disagree. This is a war on introversion. I very much like myself, whether it's eating Doritos on the couch, running Tabata sprints, working in NYC for a summer, skydiving... Relaxing on the weekends and doing "nothing" is not grounds to improve myself. In fact, whenever women ask me what I did that weekend, I beam a smile from ear to ear, and announce "Nothing! It was glorious!", specially if I worked a lot that week. So all I'm saying is that last sentence is unfounded. Women respond to passi…

I really dislike taking advantage of other people, regardless of gender, whether it's friends or romantic interests. Say an acquaintance who considers him/herself my friend offers me something to drink/eat and I don't plan on returning the favor, I won't accept the offer. So your active desire to do something solely for food bothers me. When a girl offers to pay on the first date, and goes through with it, I'm floored and am excited about taking her out on the next date. :)

I wasn't a big fan of the going on dates for free food, but thanks for the field report.

I always use tickling as an excuse to seal it. Use it as part of making fun of her or as a threat to something she does. If you tickle the girl, and she throws herself on you, then it's pretty clear how to proceed. If she doesn't. Keep tickling.

How would you phrase that plan you tell her?

That would be really helpful.

Wow, you just made me realize what's made me so comfortable with strangers. I did the 100 strangers project in one day. I went around my college town and collected 87 photos of 100 different strangers (some group shots) and it's had a great effect on my approach with strangers. Just today, I started my Faces of Berkeley project, where I go around and ask panhandlers for their life stories and a picture. Hearing no from strangers I'm not interested in romantically (whatever gender) has been a hug…

A couple ideas: A. She could have never had one before with a partner. To do so with you so quickly would strip it of meaning. It's like virginity part 2. B. She is aware how she gets after cumming. Oxytocin is released, and she gets more attached... and she doesn't want to do that yet with you. She hardly knows you. C. Some cynical reasons. Edit: Not everything is a shit test. I feel it's easy to get caught up in these ideas.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
