Ok I understand what you’re saying, but that doesn’t mean the number is wrong. I was just trying to point out that the likely reason for so many unsolved cases is simply because rape is a difficult crime to prove, and therefore trying to do away with the implication that the majority of these unproven cases are false allegations.

I think this is actually not true. This study from last year says that false allegations of rape are at least five times higher than most other offence types. EDIT: Love how my comment fitting this sub’s agenda gets upvoted while my other comments get downvotes.

I don’t know much about that, I’m speaking just from a legal point of view. Obviously there are other ways that false accusations can be damaging. I would have to look into that before I made any hard statements though.

All I’ve said is that it’s a difficult crime to prove. I haven’t implied anything about how many cases are false or true. But since you’ve brought it up, about 5% of cases are proven false, and about 35% are proven true. Now I’m not saying that in 7 in 8 cases an actual rape occurred, but you must agree it’s likely that most of the time an accusation is based in fact. Mate, rape is a notoriously hard crime to prove, that’s why it has such a high percentage of dropped cases. You can’t just cherry pick a related stat and then say that “the 2-10 percent figure is horseshit”.
