That’s the awful part. I returned to the area six months ago. I’ve been providing for him since he was born. I have been trying to see him, even had plans to get my name on the BC (yes, did a paternity test). And then this offer drops...

He is a good man, I suppose. He loves his wife dearly and has taken on the role of Pater Familia. Even while not there, I was worried who she would end up marrying. I’m relieved, in a sense.

Yep. I’m his father.

I know where that path leads. Of me saying no and continuing this guarded existence. I’m tired, so tired of looking over my shoulder and then thinking about him and the eventual tug of war with him. I don’t want that for him. He doesn’t know me. He apparently has issues as laid out above. I never ever intended to be a father. Only wanted to be an uncle. It’s as if he’s up for adoption. Which is what it is. Just as a woman has that option, as difficult as it is. So do I.

Oh yes. Did amnio synthesis. It’s mine. Birth control pills not taken even though was told they were. Since then, I’ve paid special attention to kids who grew up like that (I did...awful)

Is it impressive? I don’t think so. I’m a man just like the rest of y’all. Since this occurred 4 years ago and an awful breakup last year with a different woman, I’ve prescribed to the MGTOW ethic. It’s a TOUGH decision. One that I’ve only heard of one other making (a retired two star). It’s a cautionary tale. And a solution that can occur but at what emotional cost?

Thank you. The multiple paragraphs help. Maybe she is lying. Maybe he is fine. I’ve seen the medical bills (thank god for tricare). When this all began, in the beginning, she mentioned money...marry or pay. She then wrote letters to my old command spreading lies and untruths and insinuating I wanted to harm her. That was fun. It hurts. Perhaps the struggle is akin to a woman having an abortion or up for adoption. Talk about seeing the other side.

When I was trying to describe this to my friend, I used “The Road Not Taken” analogy without conjuring up Robert Frost. Could she be lying? I don’t think she would do that. I’ve seen the various medical bills, paid for 60% of them. Between a possibly developmentally challenged child who I will never see, the chance for him to continue his life with the man he knows as Dad, the financial and job freedom and not having to look over my shoulder...

Same family. My son’s mother would still be his mother. I’d be replaced.

I’ve never met my son. Probably not getting to meet him. It’s tough.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
