5	Being Falsely Accused of Rape Ruined My Life IANAL but I don’t believe that would be enough to meet the Reasonable Doubt needed to pursue it criminally, but mayedit meet the Preponderance of Evidence standard civilly. This is why OJ was acquitted criminally and guilty civilly, the burden of proof is different. Carriers don’t see the plaintext because it is encrypted, and even Apple states here: For example, conversations which take place over iMessage and FaceTime are protected by end-to-end encryption so no one but the sender and receiver can see or read them. Even so, I don’t think they’d keep that data for long. If the police saw the screenshots, perhaps they kept them? Ask to see the file. E: Or, even better, maybe you have a backup from that time?
