I feel you, my mother and I have very different dating beliefs. It's kind of hypocritical from her side imo but I just don't debate her anymore. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and I'm not here to convince anyone anymore, it's so exhausting. To any unwarranted advice, I just say "thanks I'll keep it in mind" and try to ignore. But I get it, it's your mum. It's hard to ignore her. Sending hugs <3

Yepp I realise this. Fortunately, I've got a couple of single events to go to next week. My friends and I booked them a couple of months ago so I've been excited haha. I think I wanted to know if this online thing was a good idea because I haven't had much success irl. Can't seem to get to the LTR part.

This seems like the general consensus haha, I've got a couple of single's events coming up in a week so I'm excited for that.

Ah yes in this case I do agree with you. I'm just a little anxious with this since I really don't know him. I didn't know whether he was a guy until the fifth day. And conversations became flirty after that. So I'm a bit perplexed.

Good point. Is asking for photos like this okay when he hasn't verbally mentioned any kind of "I'm kinda into you"?

I appreciate the straightforwardness. The thing is we're not dating so I can cut my losses if nothing happens and if it does, I'll be very open with a plan (if he doesnt want that, he's removed and I move on). I just don't know if this is like normal? Every relationship I've been in (whether it was courting or committed) has been either dating apps or the man asking me out straight up. So no friends first or whatever this is. I'll tell him I don't want to send photos coz I don't actually know hi…

Yep, I'm not the most comfortable and I don't know if I want to even date him because I barely know him. I have a feeling he just wants to see if he finds me attractive so it would be worth the effort talking to me. I can understand but like still!!

The name thing doesn't bother me that much considering only very few online friends even knows my name. Everyone just calls me by my user and I do the same. But that's the difference, this isn't really frienship is it? Honestly, the married thing has crossed my mind I can't lie. I've matched with a married guy on an app and I exited that without getting hurt so I'm thinking what's the difference. But I'm definitely treading lightly because this IS a different situation. I just wanna know what re…

But what more could he do?? He's not adding to her stress but I'm not sure what he could actively do considering that he's working and financially providing for the family most of the time.

So love what everyone here have said so far, but I wanna add my perspective as someone approaching my mid-twenties (and currently single haha). It's really easy to get disheartened as a single woman as young as you are because you have so many different types of men to "choose" from and it seems like they all want different things. It's overwhelming because it's true; men are human and they have differing personalities thus they have differing preferences. You would need to figure out what type …

Okay, I'm the child of two very successful (very busy) people with my mother being the doctor. So I can give some insight from the child side of things (also parents come from a very culturally conservative upbringing) Does she regret it? No. Was it hard? Very much so. From what I've seen and experienced, sometimes your career needs to take a backseat. 3 years to a kid is HUGE compared to an adult so you need to take that into consideration. From the begining, you would need to acknowledge that …

I really like this response, it's given me a lot to think about. It's so ironic because I was just on a phone call with my little brother and I was giving him a whole step by step process of what he should do when he preps for university (he wants to go into finance so its likely to be very intense). He's got a few years left of high school to give a gist of his age so he's a lot younger than me. So I'm not sure if this behaviour of mine is acceptable since he's so young (I've literally made an …

It's so hard because as soon as they say "what do you think?", it all tumbles out hahaha. I suppose it's not a bad thing, to offer a solution when asked for. But the man majority of the time, always turns out to a really anxious codependent man and its making me think is it just me?

Okay things I've recognised to refrain from doing anymore are like, doing his laundry, meal-prepping and stuff on that level (coz first of all thats crazy behaviour when you're not living together, let alone married 😭 ive learnt from my mistakes). But then, idk making treats/breakfast occasionally is fine, right? (tbh im not exactly sure what to do when u wanna show love but at a girlfriend level, everything ends up feeling like when I take care of my little brother) A big issue is that I end up…

Omg I hope it doesn't come to that too. But I think you'll be able to overcome it!!! Just need effort from both sides. I think something that's worth noting is that you both have 3 years' worth of love between you (mine were a few months at best, so it was easier to leave with less hard feelings). So I think if he can become more independent and rlly nurture his masculinity and then for you to take it easy, i think you can come out stronger. I remember my cousin had a similar issue (but it was m…

Were you able to solve this? I'm pretty nurturing too (elder sister with a large age gap too 😅) but it turns into overbearing at times. I've ended relationships because I just got icked out by their "incompetence" (even though it's literally me that triggered it). What's the line between being kind and being like his mother? I feel like its so blurred for me.

yeahh definitely feels like age plays a part then. Coz I asked an older woman (31) and she had a different perspective on it. She was like it feels like it has similar energy to the girlboss and “empowered women” movements when she was our age but turned up a notch and packaged with the divine femininity content. I can definitely see where she’s coming from and those movements did have a lot of flaws in it. Ngl this kinda reminds me of the girls support girls phase which then turned into girls p…

Maybe it's a cultural thing? Where I'm from, it's used in situations where we uphold girl code and not put down women for our own benefit. We say it in our day to day lives too (not often tho)1. I haven't seen people use it in a negative way although my social environment is quite different to others. A lot of my married friends and acquaintances use it haha. I do feel like in online spaces it's a bit overdone and inflated but that's the internet for you. I guess if I think about it critically, …

Right??? I love it so much. It’s just that sometimes it’s not very well received, in terms of romantic/sexual attraction. That’s why I like to think SMV is more related to how you look rather than what you wear being the deciding factor.

Haha thank youuu!! But yess!! It’s a great way to vet I agree. I honestly end up preferring the guys who are attracted to me in my hanfu-esque clothing because we have common and adjacent interests (most of them are history and gaming nerds lol which complements my historical romance and manga hobbies)

I’m in the same boat as you, my silhouettes are inspired from hanfus from the ming dynasty era and I’ve got a few himekaji pieces. In my opinion I think it makes me look quite feminine and delicate. But because it is so modest, a lot of men dislike it, which is fine because it is not the norm here to dress like this. I’d like to say alternative fashion choices don’t matter when a guy would like to get to know you but it does. It did deter some of the men that seemed like my ideal type . But dres…

You and me both. My parents were fairly emotionally reserved (constipated?) and I ended up doing the same as you. I was always trying to get the upperhand and "win" since I felt like I was worth less if I let them win. I have narcissistic tendencies1 and they really influenced my need to succeed and I was obsessed with silent revenge (aka winning). This was a protective measure against my inferiority complex and a low sense of self, basically I hated myself. I had to focus on really trying to se…

Since it's 50/50, I feel like its just the men then rather than something innately wrong with you (ie. the current environment you're in rn). I am not saying that anyone is the villain here but feel like you unfortunately got the attention of the wrong type of guys. I'll talk about me first for some context (coz I relate a lot), but I was discussing this occurrence with a male friend of mine, and he suggested that maybe the reason why these "felons" (as he calls them) gravitated towards me and b…

Does this sort of behaviour happen with every man you interact with? Or is it just a few of them? I'm only asking since I was in the same spot before (perhaps not as bad).

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
