If he had taken the ex for a walk in the park and her to dinner, she would have been made that he bought her an expensive meal because that would mean he was only after sex or something....and that he must have liked the ex better because he was more romantic with her.
She also seems to be rationalizing her failure - - she cannot flirt with guys she likes. If she flirted with guys who were less attractive, they may be receptive to her.

Can I agree with both of you? The safety nets do play a role but so does culture. Without the safety nets then you could not have as much a degenerate culture and without a degenerate culture you wouldn't need the safety nets.
