Ask him to support his opinions with evidence. There is no valid evidence that circumcision prevents diseases. The idea that there is no loss of sensation is crazy, there are thousands of specialized nerves in the foreskin. Justifying surgery because you picked the name is idiotic. Will he drop his demand if you let him rename the baby? It sounds like you've provided plenty of evidence already, he just refuses to listen to you. This seems like a bad precedent for your relationship. If he doesn't…

It's not a Jewish conspiracy, John Harvey Kellogg convinced American medicine in the late 1800s that it would stop boys from masturbating and now its a cash cow for obstetricians and urologists. In the Middle East, Islam is definitely the primary factor for mass mutilation of young boys.

Another simple response to the argument in question "Should parents be allowed to have their childs ears pierced?" Many people would not be comfortable with doing this. They might say "no, that should be up to her" or "its a permanent deicision" and then the double standard is clear

I think it depends on the initial statement being refuted. "He'll be ostracized by women and his peers" - More and more boys in America are growing up intact, and he shouldn't want to be with an immature girl who considers foreskin gross anyway. "He should be like his father" - Plenty of circumcised fathers have decided to leave their child intact and it didn't destroy the family. "But hygeine" - But showers. "But medical benefits" - marginal benefits at best, none at worst. HIV is prevented muc…

Is there maybe a little bit of middle-ground between banning a religion completely and banning a child sex act (in this case) and forced amputation that just happens to be practiced for religious purposes? Furthermore, if the foundations of Islam and Judaism would crumble without circumcision, then I'd argue the stability of these religions is wobbly at best.

Not sure I support this mentality. No one should be able to command someone else to get an abortion, not even ones spouse. Nor do I think a woman should be forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy for 9 months by her spouse's demand. Both go against bodily autonomy in my eyes. What I do think should happen, is a man should be able to waive himself of financial obligation before the birth and give up custody rights.

I don't think the issue should be ignored. It's definitely a dumb practice. I just think it seems kinda ridiculous put into context of how uncut men are treated by American/western society. I hate how male genital cutting is largely deemed acceptable but there is zero tolerance for any interference at all with a female's genitalia Just look at Type 4 of FGM . A pinprick of the female genitalia is literally defined as mutilation, yet the removal of 15 square inches of highly innervated male tissue perfectly fine. What a joke. Certainly most FGM is worse than MGM (though some is exactly the same), but condemning the first and allowing the latter is like being against gouging girls ey…

The crux of this debate is obviously the circumcision of infants, and to my knowledge, there has never been a case of necessary infant circumcision. A boy's foreskin is supposed to stay fused to the head of the penis for the first few years of life, even up to 8-10 years old in some cases. Adults sure, after stretching and preputioplasty has failed, a very small percentage of phimosis incidents may require circumcision. But again, this is very rare and the same can be said for female clitoral ho…

I feel the same way OP, I lost the right to an essential part of my anatomy. The law is blatantly unbalanced with regards to circumcision. One of the least severe forms of FGM is just the removal of the clitoral hood (female foreskin), and this is still considered mutilation while the male version of this surgery is A OK to perform on the non-consenting. Everyone has a right to intact genitals. I feel this is common sense yet the notion is still perceived as tinfoil hat hippie nonsense.

Even so, stretching with a steroid cream or preputioplasty are much less radical treatments that should be considered before circumcision.

I'm glad you're happy with the results from the surgery you had by your own choice. Since the incidence of phimosis is only around 1 in 100 males, I think we should let every kid have a choice like you had instead of doing the surgery by default.

Of course you're entitled to your opinion, but consider this: "If you were colorblind as a baby, then you've never known anything else, so to pretend that you're upset about something you've never experienced is just... wow." Here's what I wrote: While I am not opposed to an informed adult male making the choice to have himself circumcised, I believe that the compulsory circumcision of anyone under the age of majority is morally reprehensible. Over the past decades, circumcision in the US has declined from a peak of 90%, to around 56% now. By time time your son reaches sexual maturity, I wouldn't be surprised if intact became the majority. But that's not the point I want to make. You want your son's first sexual experience to not be ruined by him being "different" and that's admirable, but consider this. I recently read a story by a guy describing what it's like growing up intact. He described his first orgasm: "I felt a tingling sens…

Same here, and mine was done to me for religious reasons. It doesn't grow back wen you become an atheist unfortunately... Though there is something you can do, Foreskin restoration. It grows new skin through gentle tugging. That new skin protects the glans, making it more sensitive, shiny and healthy looking, while restoring the natural lubrication and gliding motion. This isn't to say circumcision should be allowed because "they can always restore when they're older" It doesn't give back all th…

Why is it a men's rights issue? Because what other movement would it fall under? We support equal rights for all and the end to any persecution against men. Little anatomy lesson: The female clitoral hood is analogous to the male foreksin. It is very much illegal to strap down a little girl and cut off her clitoral hood. It is very much legal to cut off a boy's foreskin and even throw a party! (I had a bris) Here we have a very blatant gender inequality. What's not to get?

"Yes, we are probably performing a totally unnecessary procedure – but we aren’t doing it because we think they are whores by nature who cannot be trusted with their libidos." Baby foreskin is a huge market. Not only do hospitals make a few hundred dollars from the easy cut of a baby's penis, they get extra money from the baby needing to stay longer to recover, plus the money they get from selling foreskin to companies. Sure, some of it goes to skin grafts and insulin production, but there is no shortage of human skin. They're using baby's penises simply because it's cheaper. To think that there's a lot of financial incentive behind millions of boys losing their sensi…

Interesting study, though I notice that sensation itself isn't a metric used in the study. They just measured desire, dyspepsia, premature ejaculation, ejaculation latency time, erectile dysfunction, and orgasm difficulties. All these things seem related to sensation but the feeling of pleasure itself doesn't seem to be addressed. I'd be hard pressed to believe 20,000 nerve endings can be lost without some degree of sensation/pleasure loss.

I respect that you tried to make the best decision for him. However: Cleaning the foreskin is very simple. Step 1: rinse with water in the shower. Step 2: there is no step 2. Exposing the head of the penis desensitizes it and dries it out, the glans is meant to be an internal organ (protected by the foreskin). Over time, a layer of keratin is formed (the stuff fingernails are made from), making it even less sensitive Good for the adult who had medical reasons getting treated, but I don't think y…
