Sorry man. I made my ex tell the kids too... there were tears. It was tough. But guess what? 8 years later... my kids are well adjusted with two parents who coparent together but in different homes, both of us better separate than we were together. We're both better parents than we were before. It doesn't feel like it in the moment, but it doesn't have to be the end of the world... take the opportunity to build a strong future for your kids and lay the groundwork for as good and positive a relat…

I'm a better dad... when you go from full time dad to half time you become more intentional with the time you have. Also, since I control my finances now, My credit score is excellent, and my net worth is far far higher. I am happier and healthier. I'm 7 years in.

Plus, if she needs something and I help her (I recently helped her with a flat tire on one of the days the kids were with me) all I'm doing is teaching my kids how to be quality humans and how to treat their mom right... I want to raise humans who treat their parents right... Both of them.

Not friends, but we can text, spend holidays together, interact, be at the kids stuff together, and laugh together at stuff we both find funny. It's been 7 years, she's remarried... We coparent and a good relationship is important to the kids and makes coparenting much easier. No, we don't hang out, but when we need to, it's not painful. If you have kids together, they're going to be a part of your life forever... In the beginning it's tough, but it can get easier if you let it.

I'm 50 and have lost 88lbs since Jan 1. Life isn't over, man. Choose to live, and live well. What just happened sucks. but... What happens around you is your environment. What you choose to do with it is you, and that's what dictates your future. I was heartbroken when she said she wanted a divorce after 12 yrs. 2 kids and a dog. 7 years later, I am a better person without her, we co parent well so kids are fine, I kept the dog. Life goes on, perception changes, choices to move forward and make …

Invest. We struggled with finances because she "handled" that part. When we divorced we sold our house and I used my proceeds to buy a home. 3 years later I bought my first rental property, and two years later my second. She still rents. I want her to change that, for many reasons.

My ex remarried and kept my name. We have kids together. Her new husband has an odd last name, her maiden name is odd. Mine isn't all that better... they're all derived from the same low country in northwestern europe by chance, but she got her grad degree and worked for 15 yrs with this name... doesn't bother me. But I'm not her new hubby lol

He's right. My ex said she never loved me after 12 yrs of marriage. I thought life was over. Flash forward, My life is better than it ever was, I'm a much more intentional dad than I ever was before, and I'm happier with better friends. Almost 5 years since she moved out. Look for the positives, protect yourself and any kids, and surround yourself with friends who will push you to be a better man.... not for her, but for you and your future.

I wish it was this way in Arizona. She chose to work a low paying job, and I applied myself in life. Thus there is an income difference so even though it's 50 50 custody I pay child support and 2/3 of all medical expenses.

Not at all interested at this point. 2 yrs in and honestly not even interested in dating. The kids made it clear they'd prefer not having steps, and even tho the ex hasn't considered how they feel I do. But I actually enjoy not dealing with all the drama of a relationship. I have my kids 50/50 and stay pretty busy the other times... Much happier than I was when married... Though I did think I was for the most part happy then. I can see connecting when the kids are all grown and no longer around …

I also learned that agreeing to no child support in the divorce is not enforceable. I took on the student loan debt in return for her agreeing to no support (we are 50/50 but I had them two extra days last year and I pay for all the extras like cell phones, camps, healthcare etc) and judge gave her support despite the divorce agreement and would not consider revisiting the student loan debt, even though there decree stated clearly that the only reason father was taking on the debt was because mo…
