Philosophy is private company that sells primarily to women. The NYT is doing a story on their philanthropy work and they used the 40,000 figure as an attention grabber. I don't see where they claim that women need "special attention."

MR by its definition is not egalitarian, it is advocating for one side. To be egalitarian we need to recognize that there is a space for feminism. We also must look outside the bubble of the western world where women face enormous disparities. Rejecting the ideology in it's entirety is not a productive way to move forward.

I dont know where you got 13 but if there were 0 women in that group it is enough to question weather it is still just a statistical fluke. There definitely seems to be a trend going with the sex of the killer.

Can someone give an explanation for why selective service is a big issue. I get that it's gender biased which is bad, but no one has actually been drafted in decades, right? Could the government do a draft now, would it be legal or constitutional? When I signed up for the draft before I went to college I felt it was just a formality and would never effect me, is this true? Can someone explain why this issue is not just based on principal, or if it is why is it still important.

The article is a bit misleading. This is not a condom, it is something for the woman to insert that will dissolve so the man does't know about it. This would be useful in certain cultures where condoms aren't accepted for whatever reason.

Right now they are developing the technology, they havent put it into practice so they dont say exactly what drugs it will be used to deliver. Before it is used to deliver drugs it will go through clinical trials to test its safety and side effects.

This isn't really true. If you look at the data, black men or other minorities have it worse across the board: healthcare, mortality, arrest rates, income, housing, immigration, and probably more. The example you gave isn't a very good one if you're looking at discrimination.

You have to look at context here, she is looking at disparities between different groups. Black men face certain oppression just because they are black, not because they are men. She is making the (incorrect) accretion that white men are the ones who are not part of any of these discriminatory subgroups.

I see what you're saying in that a single slap should no be considered domestic violence and is not grounds for any legal action. But it is a sign that it is an unhealthy relationship and most likely grounds to end it. Alleggro put it very well about breaching the barrier of physical abuse. Once you've done that you cant go back, it becomes an acceptable way to deal with problems in the relationship and can escalate very easily.

I think it an interesting exercise. We rarely get to view these situations with so much detail, it's almost always based on he sad, she said reports. Even if it's just fictional, being able to see how subtle jesters and postures can change the entire tone of the situation is important in realizing how complicated this issue really is. False accusations are brought up a lot on here and in that way I think it realtes to MR.

Because I hate when these articles dont site anything: Dan Bollinger, Robert Van Howe. (2012). Alexithymia and Circumcision Trauma A Preliminary Investigation. International Journal of Men's Health It looks like men who were circumcised had 4.5x probability of taking ED drugs, only a 2.1x probability of being diagnosed with ED. I hope more research is done on this soon but I agree the sample sise is low and its hard to draw any strong conclusions from this.

Lets be civilized about these things. A guilty woman was convicted for the violent crime she committed. The quote at the end of the video, "WTF, no pussy pass" is so unnecessary. There is no need to insult an entire gender to make an argument. Instead we should use this case to raise awareness for the fact domestic violence is not gender-specific. I dont understand why people have to be so hateful.

To be fair, the school does not make the laws. From a different point of view this could be seen as the school advising men to be conscious of the way the law treats them regarding sexual crimes, not necessarily accusing men of being rapists.

It is important to manage expectations here. Before you begin a research project, especially one on humans, you must go through an ethics review committee to make sure that your project doesn't violate them. There is probably one for the individual hospital that he works at. Circumventing this committee is a big no-no in academia which is why he was disciplined. I'm not sure what he meant by the committee forbidding research on circumcision specifically but there is probably more to the story.

Im all for promoting the negatives of infant circumcision. But this study is poorly conducted and presented, to start there are no controls. It does not provide any evidence that circumcision permanently alters a persons brain. I think we should be careful before spouting off things like this as fact when there isn't much to back it up.

I'm not arguing with your opinion. Obviously the cost of phycological trauma or infant death cannot be measured. But whether or not the studies conclusions are sound they did account for the medical costs of the circumcision itself. Thats all I was saying.

It great to hear that the data shows most women do trust men to take contraceptive. I guess the author of the article is in the 2% that wouldn't trust men. Still it doesn't hurt to be cautious and make sure your partner (male or female) is taking their contraceptive correctly.

In resource poor countries there is often very little access to healthcare and it may be difficult to get the procedure after the baby leaves the hospital. The WHO has determined that the benefit gained from decreased susceptibility to HIV outweighs the possible complications. I think this issue needs to be looked at differently in the US than in places where a large percentage of the population has HIV.

I think this is an oversimplification of a very complex public health issue. The question we should be asking (and parents should ask when they make the decision) is, is the procedure worth the decreased risk for sexually transmitted diseases. The cost effectiveness argument seemed a little bit loose to me as it is difficult to determine with such a wide array of healthcare factors. But in countries where HIV is very prevalent I think its important to look at the data teach parents about the benefits of circumcision so they can make educated decisions for their children.

I dont see how this article is so controversial. Sure the "breast tenderness" remark was a little mean spirited. But she asked whether she would trust a man to take birth control and the answer was no. Just as men should not always trust women to take birth control. Edit: Just read it again and she did kind of dodge the fact that they can be taken concurrently, but that seems like a no brainer.

Men have to learn certain relationship skills (through experience) just like women do. This show happens to put women in the position of power, but there are plenty of shows that put men in the position of power as well. It sounds like pretty awful television but other than that I dont see any reason to be opposed to it.
