Also I am 23 and she is 19, we’ve been dating for 6 months. Quite young I know and maturity might play into it. Looking back another thing I’m thinking is that I haven’t really set boundaries in the relationship, I’ve never stood up to her firmly and insisted she did or didn’t do something - But I honestly feel this is because she hasn’t given me a reason to up to this point. We’ve had a great relationship with awesome chemistry sexually and otherwise, and haven’t yet had a serious argument or r…

I believe our relationship must be different because we often “roast” each other and this just didn’t feel disrespectful to the level you would take it. Maybe my perspective is off and I should make a bigger deal out of this. But it honestly didn’t feel that bad, it was more of a distasteful and disrespectful joke than an honest attempt to disrespect me. I believe she knows I am very confident in my attractiveness and maybe just wanted to test it. It sounds like you think it’s much more disrespe…

Great perspective thanks! I don’t think that is the issue as i am very confident in my attractiveness. I am very tall and muscular and at least slightly above average face. She has complimented my body many times, and she has heard others complement me quite a few times also

This is a great and helpful reply thank you. I do feel we share values, beliefs etc to where I see this as a long lasting relationship. But I do also agree with what you’re saying about her behavior. I just struggle with identifying whether or not there is intentional disrespect or if it’s honestly meant to be more of a joke/confidence test, we do “roast” each other frequently. After reading your comment I’m going to find a good time to have a conversation about it and tell her how her comments …

Yah looking back I probably should have stood up to her right then, but it honestly didn’t bother me much in the moment so I barely reacted, looking back it feels disrespectful and does bother me. How would you handle this retroactively, or do I need to just see if it ever happens again and shut it down then?

Lol it’s tempting but just seems like playing immature games. Idk if the outcome of that is what I’m after. I would do this if i could make sure she would learn from it, but don’t want to cause a bunch of drama and hurt her back out of spite, I want to correct her behavior and make her understand why what she did was wrong

I see where you’re coming from but this is a girl I have a great relationship with and I’m not going to break up with her because of this one issue. I do agree with the evaluation of it may be coming from her insecurities and I shouldn’t put up with it. I also don’t want to just play games and do the same thing back to her necessarily as I don’t think it would solve the problem, which is her being more careful with disrespect.

I see where you’re coming from but I’m not sure I agree that the test was whether or not I shut it down and set a boundary or whether or not I was confident enough to be unbothered. I think I came across as unbothered and I wonder if it increased her attraction for me. She did end up giving me a bj later lol, although that’s pretty common

That’s what I’m thinking, the comparison is what bothers me. Honesty it didn’t rlly hurt when she said it, just looking back on it it feels rlly disrespectful. Which makes it a little bit awkward to call her out on it as we had a great date and hooked up afterward. I’m wondering if my nonreaction actually increased attraction, if I was passing a test by not getting offended. When she said that I just chuckled and said that’s never gonna happen

Thanks very helpful response! I promised myself I would take a public speaking class the instant I got off of the call. I like the sound of the Dale Carnegie class, I’m looking into it. While it’s good to hear this is something most people struggle with, one of the reasons I was kicking myself so bad is I thought I was much more confident than most people and this would give me an edge in a situation like this, so it felt like a reality/ego check. I haven’t internalized trp as much as I thought.…

As others have commented its something you will need to grow into. A good start might be saying yes I’ll do this task for you, as long as you agree to return the favor with x, in a fun way
