After my divorce was final I did not do any dating. Was just uninterested after the trauma of my divorce. 6 months after my divorce a female friend asked me to accompany her as her +1 to a 4th of July BBQ. 2 years later I married her. That was 29 years ago last month. Best decision I ever made. So technically I never dated in the formal sense of the word.

When she viciously smashed my favorite guitar while I was sleeping and left the remains strategically placed for me to find as soon as I got up in the morning. I did my morning ablutions and then went into our bedroom and packed her bags and set them outside the front door. I removed her house keys, credit cards that were shared and the checkbook from her purse. I called a cab and then I woke her up and carried her outside and set her on the curb while she was half asleep. Then I called a lawyer…

Well, there can be legal reasons. For example your spouse will get half of your social security if you die before she does. That can be a huge financial help for the surviving spouse.
