I'm expecting downvotes for this, but it's more of a chauvinistic assumption that women need things explained more than men, and that certain men tend to take on the 'explainer' role without being asked to. It's a kind of arrogance, and yes there are also arrogant women who do this as well, but it's something that really happens because of sexism, especially in academia and the workplace. Certain women do over-identify it, but that doesn't mean it isn't real.
