Blind dates (fixing up friends) used to be pretty much the most popular way, but more and more using dating apps. BTW if you don't have many friends or are not popular among them, you won't get any blind dates which sucks lol.

I don't know whether extremely attractive ones are approached less or not, but this shouldn't matter, because even though that was true, that wouldn't make her more receptive to you. However, if you think the idea of them being approached less makes you feel easier approaching to them, then assume that it is true and approach. You can actually ask them whether it is true in your conversation.
