Sentimentality is synonymous with vulnerability. It seems like he is just using modern day interpretation of morality to his advantage. That's not to say that the derived ego boost is necessarily a healthy result.

Well put. Cisco itself has a whole plethora of certification options that go well beyond just routing and switching, so the choice really just boils down to what it is you want to do and how your potential employers utilize their equipment. I've been told that a combination of Cisco and MS certs can be extremely valuable if you are just aiming for a generic position in backbone IT.

So far just the CCNA, but am strongly considering the CCNP as well. The Cisco certifications set you apart from most IT applicants since its more of a niche for enterprise. It might make you less viable for small 3rd party tech support firms, but it really opens up opportunities within larger firms with an dedicated IT dept, including hospitals and universities. These exams are not for the faint of heart, but if you really get into it, they open some large doors.

I concur with the IT track. After wasting 4 years on a economics degree, I took the plunge into Cisco certifications. After seeing the opportunities open up I find myself wishing I had done it sooner.

What's even more worrying is the situation in China. Given the ratio between boys and girls given China's previous one child policy has led to a huge disparity in which women have far more choice in a selection of a mate. OP's example is only the tip of the iceberg.
