I've experienced this. It's like a gut feeling, during an interaction, that they have an ulterior motive. When I've experienced this, I usually just make a mental note to maintain distance/boundaries, and not accept or ask for any favours/help from them. I mostly carry on normally, just a little more guarded. Eventually, their mask slips and/or a pattern of behavior emerges. The last time, it was a boss. Within 30 seconds of meeting them, I had the bad gut feeling. Played it cool, played it care…

No one ever seems to want to acknowledge that abusive, bad-natured people act like perfect partners until their target has been manouevred into a position of isolation and dependence. They make it hard to leave before dropping the act.

Actually, I would call this "First World Blues." Men and women are guilty of this.

I can help him become successful and if he leaves me for a younger woman, I'll have a divorce settlement. I'm unlikely to get enough to retire and will have to start/restart a career. OR I can work hard to be successful myself.

A lot of women have realized being single is better/safer than having a mediocre partner.

Ah damn, looks like nobody wants to be a starter wife. Oh well.

I think the acceptable flaws are conditional, like "but" statements. He doesn't make a lot of money, but...e.g. he's responsible with money, or he's very handy with car/home repairs, etc. He's not a looker, but...e.g. he's healthy/fit, or happy, or a great communicator, etc. As long as the flaw is not a deal breaker, I'd be willing to consider and weigh other factors.

I agree. I think she's just making sure her young son retracts his foreskin at bath time so it gets washed. What is she supposed to do? Do it for him? That would be weird.

I got room and board. Helped with groceries and bills where I could. I think it's a bum-deal because I'm currently doing it all myself, and it's easier than doing it for him in exchange for peanuts. And again, SAHM is still work.

Because it jeopardized my long-term security. We both get to cherish our kid, but now he gets to retire a decade before me and actually enjoy his golden years. It feels unfair after all the resources I expended supporting his career. I feel used.

You're right. I just feel (based on discussions taking place in various forums) that many men believe being a SAHM is a happiness cruise and a cake walk. They are so lucky and should be grateful. I was never more miserable and exhausted than when I was a SAHM. And I have nothing to show for it. I am not alone either.

On the fringes of society, dissatisfied, less efficient? Sounds like centuries of SAHMs who had no other options, and no voice. It was only in our lifetime that domestic violence was formally and legally addressed. And sometimes even a threat? Yup, Nannie Doss, Aileen Wuornos, and many more. One gender wins, and one gender loses. "Turning the tables" will not solve the problems of gender disenfranchisement, it just transfers them. I think we're in a speed wobble. A big rearrangement of gender ro…

My most important preferences are not physical. There not really preferences actually, they are must-haves. I will not be able to live with a man who doesn't have all of these. Clean up after yourself, like really clean up. Conscientious in all things. The way you pack a suitcase, the way you drive, staying on top of vehicle maintenance. Bring your A game, and don't half-ass it. No sloppiness. You can have off days, and so can I, but those should be <10% of the time. Resourcefulness and skills. …

I had similar experiences to her and would rather not be in a relationship with one. It doesn't mean I hate men, or blame them all for what one put me through. They are still valued members of our society. If I chose not to own a dog because I don't like dealing with pet hair, it doesn't mean I hate dogs. All it means is the companionship is not worth the upkeep for me.

I can afford my own existence. And I can control what that existence entails. Why would I want to be a bangmaid, and a chaos-janitor in exchange for room and board? I will not be domestic servant, and I don't need an atm for a partner. It's like offering something I don't need, in exchange for something I don't want. I buy my own way, meet my own needs, and clean up after myself. If you can't bring something new to the table, at least don't subtract from it.

I am happier and more content since my divorce. And because I'm sure this will come up: I waived alimony (because I can support myself). Custody is 50/50, year on-year off (because he moved away). We take turns paying child support. I don't have to clean as much, but somehow my house is cleaner. This is still true when our teen lives with me. I have a great job that pays well, and I do a good job of managing my finances. Now, I have more time and money for my hobbies and friends. I don't ever wa…

Staff can definitely help, but everyone in the gym should practice zero tolerance. I think it would go a long way in making everyone feel comfortable while being a huge deterrent for this type of behavior. If you (male or female) are in a gym, and you see someone (male or female) harassing, ogling, or filming and photographing you or someone else, call them out and put them on blast! They should be running out the door in shame.

The paperwork part is a bit ridiculous. But it definitely covers important points that should be discussed with new partners. For the contraceptive part, you could include your thoughts and beliefs on how to handle an unplanned pregnancy. THAT part, might be worth getting in writing. If you both agree to an abortion and she has to travel out of state to get it, make sure she has the means to get there.

I'm upset with medicine. Women who request sterilization are asked to check with their husband/partner or reconsider. It's as though their reproductive organs do not belong to themselves. Their reproductive faculties belong to the state. But men can get vasectomies no questions asked. Considering the hardships of pregnancy and child birth, don't women deserve the right to choose. Despite many women experiencing extreme pain, vomiting and loss of consciousness, (IUD insertion, and colposcopy for …

Feminism exists on a spectrum. Kinda like not all men, not all feminists. Personally, I think gender roles should not be used to measure the value of an individual. For example, a man who stays home to raise children is just as valuable as a woman who does it. As a woman, I find ideas like SMV, and hitting the wall disappointing. For me, feminism is about dignity. Surely, I am worth more than just what I can do for men (being feminine/attractive, bearing children, and homemaking). Likewise for t…

I think those with "improved parental leave policies" also have effective sex education and better access to birth control.

Just for clarity, are you suggesting men aren't responsible by default and must sign on as childcare providers? Many women don't find out they are pregnant until week 4-5. Don't forget, when women miss their period, they are already 2-3 weeks pregnant by then . They'll notice if they are paying attention/tracking. Otherwise, a week or two might elapse before they take a test.

Absolutely agree. But in order for a paper abortion to work and be ethical, the following should apply: 1. The man is informed of the pregnancy. 2.The man communicates his legal option (serves the woman) to give up his rights and opt out of his responsibilities. 3. The woman has 1 week after being served to decide on abortion or to carry full term. It's too risky, though. She might choose not tell him, and she could be too far along for an abortion. What if she gets paternity wrong. On paper, it…

Wooo! Okay, I'm not offended, I said "I feel bad for..." Did you actually read my post? I also included misandrists in the list of enemies, so....

I feel bad for men's rights. Incels and mysoginists overrun your valid movements, and you get shut down. Incels, mysoginists, and misandrists are the enemy. Not men vs. Women.

If you don't want to get "baby trapped", just get a vasectomy. Or wear a condom (and to be extra careful, don't leave it behind), or abstain. Women have access to birth control. Men have access to birth control. It blows my mind, that some (men and women) leave the responsibility of bc to a gender they have deemed untrustworthy. WTF! If you believe in "baby trapping," you should be proactive and in charge of your own bc.

Woman here, Bad women feel entitled to men's money. Bad men feel entitled to women's bodies. Just don't be bad. Men's rights and women's rights are valid and can co-exist. Misogyny and misandry are counter-productive. Men and women will have to work together. I think society in general is in the process of redefining what "together" means, and what kind of "together" will respect the dignity of everyone involved.

Okay, so it's definitely your attitude. Honesty is not quid pro quo. Payback? Women have a sixth sense for bruised egos and desperation. If you're still getting great sex, what's the problem? They ghost when they find out about your vasectomy? Sounds like you BOTH dodged a bullet.

Why do you keep saying women "give" sex? The women I'm with are willing and informed participants in something we give each other. I think your attitude is likely to blame.

That's super weird man. I've had mind-blowing sex that was honest and straight-forward (NSA). Where recreational sex is concerned, deception and manipulation (on any end) is a no-no. That goes for the women trying to get pregnant. Some women lie, it sucks. But don't start lying to all women. That'll get you a bad rep. Be honest with every woman, you'll find the right ones, even if it takes a bit longer.

I'm not accusing you of dishonesty, just advising against it. And congrats on your vasectomy🤘. For the life of me, I can't imagine a vasectomy being a deal breaker for a woman, unless she wants a family. Especially when so many have IUDs.

I would be honest with them. If they want to start a family, it wouldn't be fair to them. Don't take it personally, and allow them to find a man willing to start a family.
