2	A father complained that now he has 50/50 custody, the change in child support is taking a long time, whereas when mom had custody the child support modifications were back dated and were effective upon filing. Why does child support need to exist if someone has 50/50 custody? I’m not sure how it is for Yankees but here in Australia it’s essentially socialist income distribution from the higher earning to the lower earning parent, regardless of custody. The thing in the US is you have actual legitimate financial incentives to get married such as income splitting. In countries that have common law marriages such as mine, you don’t get those incentives. It’s just all downside to cohabitate.
