It is payment almost like child support but for the SO. It’s a ‘quality of life’ thing. If a woman is used to living at a certain quality of life she “deserves” compensation after a breakup. It makes a little bit of sense if she was ‘made’ to be a stay at home Mom and lost any ability to save for herself and gain experience in the workplace. But that is rarely the case.
