I agree with you - the problem is one of terminology. Even if feminism once meant a belief that men and women should be equal, the connotations are now something quite different from that. I'm pretty sure that when feminism was in its infancy I would have happily described my views as feminist; there's absolutely no way I would do so today as it would label me as a loony man hater.

It's just a shitty piece of reporting: the law will, indeed, be there for all victims, regardless of gender - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11836047. Whether that makes it a fine piece of legislation remains doubtful.
