My mom always told me you were lucky in life if you make it out with just one close friend that has stuck it out with you. Sure, social media helps maintain the illusion of a big friend network, but those ties are mostly all trivial. Saying you 'like' or comment on my post doesn't mean jack to the quality of our friendship. Do you ever call me to hang out? Am I always the one that has to initiate everything? Friends are great, but it's very rare that people keep friends long term. I can count th…

My thirtysomething single friends are all like this. And more power to them, they are free to do what they want. But I see this as nothing but pure escapism. They've traded a life of having relationships for something that resembles the 'good old times' from college. They're happy, but they are stunted in their personal and social development. They rarely date and have highly distorted views on women and incapable of anything beyond short term relationships. I think it's sad.

Just a forewarn...a lot of ppl go to the gym to just exercise and de-stress. Don't feel discouraged if a girl doesn't seem interested. Also feeling sweaty in public makes you less inclined to be flirty. On that note, you can still do things like signing up for a 5K, joining a running group, yoga class, hiking group, where the situation is inherently more social.

Depends on what each person wants out of it and expectations are set. Eventually you will need the time together or you do drift apart. If it's only casual, then it could last a while. Had a friend recently complete 2 years of grad school with her b/f a state away, but they committed that this was temporary, they'd make every effort to stay close, and now they're getting married.

Wish I could upvote this more. There needs to be more of this mentality. Not that you should wait around on hand and foot, but you never know what that bit of extra effort, thought, and time will accomplish. But you have to set a realistic time frame and boundaries. Otherwise you'll just be going through the motions, waiting for something to just instantly click with someone, and we're not all that lucky. I just attended a wedding of a good friend of mine. He met his wife at work, and they didn'…
