I took the "expand your social circle" advice to heart and now I have an over-abundance of friends who are constantly making demands for my time. At no point in any of these varying friend groups have I ever been introduced to viable dating prospects, which is what I actually want. The single women I do hang out with just complain about dating apps and do nothing to improve their appeal to men. The single men in my circle are all in the same boat in that they find it almost impossible to find wo…

I'm a a guy who is very selective towards friends and go out of my way to avoid having shitty men join my social circle. It is INSANELY easy to spot these kinds of guys, usually within a few interactions. They are not subtle in the slightest. I think the halo effect is very real, and a lot of women truly do struggle to disassociate looks from character.

On the surface, online dating is incredibly distorted. I've been acquainted several women in recent years who would be considered very unattractive by any conventional standards. They do get lots of matches on online dating. HOWEVER, what they do not get are relationships. They're the kind of people that always say things like "guys only want sex" or "I wish people would be honest about their intentions". They're getting spammed with meaningless matches and messages, that is all.

I tried every bit of self improvement bullshit under the sun. None of it made one bit of difference. I finally gave in and got a chin implant. It was absolutely shocking how noticeable the change was (to a depressing degree). I was used to women ignoring me by default, and within a few weeks of the swelling being gone I had multiple women approaching me at a bar in one night. The next week I had to kindly ask a lady at another bar to stop grabbing me. I cannot stress enough how these kinds of th…

Lift weights. Been doing that consistently for 12+ years, and I've barely noticed a difference in how I'm perceived. Women do not care about physique to nearly the same degree that guys do. Just don't be underweight or sloppy fat and your physique is probably fine as far as the opposite sex is concerned.

That's a great example. I have a very similar recession in my hairline currently and am hoping for something along those lines when I visit a surgeon in a few months.

I totally get what you're saying. For me, the problem is that this is nothing new. I've been able to project confidence and command a crowd for a decade plus. But it never produces anything but friendships. I'm frustrated, and I want more than that. It feels like the bar I have to reach is miles and miles higher compared to my peers, and there's no way to prevent that from getting under your skin. So I admittedly get really annoyed anytime people say things like "just be confident". I know from …

It really is a shame. Over the years, I've become way more open minded on looks. Not just by necessity, but also as a matter of maturing and realizing that there are great people out there. Why would I want to risk missing out on a strong connection just because someone isn't at the absolute top of my attraction scale? I don't think it's even controversial at this point to say that the overwhelming majority of women today do not share this sentiment at all.

You basically just contradicted yourself. And no, I wasn't being a "clown" in that situation, I was just leading the group because it felt natural, and they seemed to appreciate it. I was plenty confident and not looking for validation in the moment. It's when I reflect on it the next day, I realize, "wow, I have this much ability to connect with people, but it doesn't make a shred of difference when it comes to getting dates." Women can hype the term all they want, but "confidence" really is be…

The one I often get from my really attractive friends: "just go to a bar" It sounds completely ridiculous... until I do go to a bar with them, and women just walk up and start a flirtatious conversation. Meanwhile, I went to a bar earlier this week. Had an entire table of people I didn't know laughing and following my lead for over an hour. I came out of it with one phone number... a dude who thought I was a lot of fun and wanted to be friends. I can put on on a fucking variety show and get nowh…

The way I see it: you should only take dating advice from someone who is the same gender and the same relative level of visual attractiveness. Otherwise, you are getting a distorted perspective that has little relevance to your situation.

I'm a millennial, and most guys in my school were definitely not dating much if any. I had a few short term relationships (absolutely nothing to brag about at all), and I was comfortably one of the more popular, well-known kids. When I listen to my parents describe high school dating (1970s), it sounds like a different universe.

That has not been my experience at all, but I'm sure it's highly dependent on location.

My from my anecdotal experience as a frequent Meetup participator who has had to move to brand new cities: most Meetups are straight up terrible for finding dates. The gender ratio is usually super skewed in most groups, and the few women who do show up tend to already have partners. If you do find a Meetup that is mostly women your age, it still takes a ton of patience (unless you are very good looking I suppose). Making moves early on will get you shunned from the group, I saw that plenty of t…

First one that comes to mind: Self improvement has an extremely limited ROI for men (unless you're correcting a glaringly obvious flaw) whereas it is highly beneficial for most women.

This comment triggered me. All the pointless fucking activities I do week-to-week just for the minuscule chance of meeting someone. Meanwhile, women today don't even have to leave their couch to have 5 dates set up by end of the night. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Bingo. Self improvement means fuck all in today's dating environment. Either be born with certain specific traits or you don't matter one bit to young women. I don't think people realize just how bad things have gotten. For instance, my best friend has slept with well over 50 women, and even he hasn't been laid once in the past 5 years. He certainly doesn't qualify as an "incel", but he's living the exact same lifestyle in the present. Men under the age of 35 are getting destroyed right now.

From my experience: going from underweight to ripped has had virtually no effect. I'll receive the occasional compliment from platonic friends, but that's about where it ends. The one thing I do notice is that people (both men and women) seem to massively overestimate the amount of romantic success I have due to my physique. My theory is that having a good physique is a bonus IF you have a handsome face, but it cannot substitute for a lack of a handsome face. The physical change that did make a …

Parts of this made me squirm in my seat. Ugh I wish I could be better. I want so badly to be that "no fucks given" kind of guy, but I'm just not there yet.

Beat me to it. Online dating completely warps women's perceptions and creates these unbelievably toxic standards. I've seen women's match lists before, and they are overflowing with handsome dudes who have at least decent jobs. Plus, let's not forget: you can only get a match if YOU are swiping on them. You can't say, "this person seems cute" and then later decide they're not attractive enough once you compare them to your other matches.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
