I like this approach too, but I think you'd have to be very careful. Both throwing the ball back at her head and saying "hey what's your problem" could be seen as too reactionary. But as long as they can see you're kidding, you could pull it off.

I'm not so sure about this one. Trying to isolate too early can lead to her being uncomfortable, even if she complies. Personally, I would have tried to get all three of them to interact with your group first. If they were only ~7 feet away, I would have watched for eye contact (especially where she looks after breaking it) and then introduced myself. Honestly, mixed sets are tough for me too. I wish I could tell you something that's worked for me, but I haven't discovered it yet.. I couldn't agree more; I definitely overthink things too much, many times in the middle of a conversation with a girl. In this particular instance, however, I had built up so much sexual tension that I could literally feel the drop.
