you think gender quotas for women are a good thing and that they don't cause direct discrimination against men? I believe that a democratic parliament should represent its people, including the demographic makeup. Currently the British parliament fails at that and gender quota is one solution. It's not perfect because the whole system needs to be overhauled but it's a step in the right direction. If you know a better way to represent women equally in parliament I would be interested to hear your…

So what you're saying is that you, a commenter using a username on an internet forum are the true feminist, and the feminists actually responsible for changing the laws, writing the academic theory, teaching the courses, influencing the public policies, and the massive, well-funded feminist organizations with thousands and thousands of members all of whom call themselves feminists... they are not "real feminists". I just want to be clear that this is not my position. I'm not saying I am a femini…

Sorry if I seem to have conflated terms. I've been referring to the belief system called feminism which (as Google defines it) is "the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes" with a feminist being a person who believes in that philosophy. I don't know enough amount Feminism as a movement to comment on that but if you know more about it and want to tell me about it I can tell you if the things they have done or supported is something I would support also.

You claim to not be a feminist but all feminists are liars so that's exactly what a feminist would say. You are obviously a feminist and you cannot prove otherwise, I will simply dismiss out of hand any excuse you might give.

Well lots of things and lots of things. If you want to give me an example I can let you know if I think it's a good idea or not.

I find it ironic that you think I'm using "semantic shenanigans" when semantic confusion is the exact thing I'm trying to avoid by asking you to define your terms. I started writing a whole thing but I'm just repeating myself at this point. I've told you I don't understand a word you are using so if you won't tell me what that word means then it's physically impossible for me to understand you. Unless you are going to do that I'll just say goodbye and I wish you all the best in your pursuit of g…

The issue here is that you're trying to compare your definition to my definition, whereas I'm comparing your definition to the one that the people who you claim are "doing feminism wrong" have. So tell me what you think their definition of feminism is. I literally don't understand you because you keep using a word that up until now you have refused to tell me what it means. In the next paragraph you go on to use the words feminist/feminism 4 times so you must have a concept of what it means when…

This is literally no true Scotsman again. I see what you mean, but I am using the definition I already told you I use as well as clarifying that is the definition I was using so I'm not moving any goal posts. I can't use any other definition because you haven't provided one. Let me try to state this without using a word that we can't agree on the definition of. Some people are pro-gender equality and do things that promote gender equality. Some people are pro-gender equality but do things that o…

I'm probably wasting my time but have you listened to the podcast The Guilty Feminist? They talk about some of the issues you raise here (and acknowledge that their beliefs are sometimes flawed). You might find it interesting to hear about them from the perspective of self-proclaimed feminists.

any pushback on anything that feminism stands for is automatically categorised as harmful to gender equality. I'm not saying that at all. I fully agree that harm has been perpetrated in the name of feminism (both intentionally and unintentionally). That doesn't make all people who call themselves feminist bad; it makes some people who call themselves feminist bad at being feminist (using the word 'feminist' as they themselves would use it, to mean promoting gender equality.) What you believe and…

Let me know if I've misunderstood but it looks like your argument is "only people who claim to be for gender equality but are actually against gender equality call themselves feminist." Here is a scenario that I believe disproves that argument: Adam is a man who believes in gender equality but he has never heard of feminism. Bob explains "Feminists are people who believe in gender equality." Adam responds "I believe in gender equality, so I must be a feminist." So Adam is a person who truly beli…

That's ok. Internet point are worthless. You won't convince most people but if you make one person rethink their actions then you're winning. You don't change anything by only ever posting in an echo chamber.

I think if you see something like this the best thing to do is leave a comment in the thread to remind people in as unconfrontational way as possible that body shaming is harmful to all people, not just the person you are attacking.

So I have this theory that a large proportion of societal division is caused by semantics. For me the word 'feminism' literally means 'a belief in gender equality'. So I have two questions: 1. What is your definition of the word 'feminism'? 2. Do you believe that a belief in gender equality is harmful?

So the solution is to make queen (regent) equal in rank to king and make queen consort into princess consort, in line with prince consort as a consort cannot have a rank equal to a regent. I find it kind of amusing that this is being interpreted as a mens rights issue as it's actually the queen who is being ranked unfairly.

This is what's called the no true Scotsman fallacy. You say: No Scotsman would eat porridge with sugar in it. I reply: But I'm a Scotsman and I eat porridge with sugar. so you say: Well no true Scotsman would eat porridge with sugar. You're doing the same thing. You say if someone is feminist then they want to destroy men. If I say that I am a feminist and I don't want to destroy men then you say I am not a true feminist.

yeah, that's your interpretation because you're on the internet reading a text recounting of the events and you weren't there in person. dont over-analyze shit so much. believe me it wasn't obvious to the person that mattered: OP. He said so himself.

What aspects of feminism concern you? Just curious. And just to answer the question, I don't think all women hate each other. I think there are certain environments where a culture of jealousy and 'bitchiness' is allowed to thrive but it seems to me it is a cultural issue, not a biological one.

If it works for you, I'm happy for you. But you don't know that sex is important for anyone other than yourself. Every relationship is different. You can't extrapolate from personal experience. I didn't come here purposely to attack your ideas but I couldn't read that comment and not say anything because I believe that particular bit of advise to be damaging to women and society in general. If girls and young women come here looking for advise and leave thinking that the only way they will ever …

Ok. I think it was less a reading error on my part and more a linguistic one, though I do see now that I made a mistake so thanks for the clarification. You see I'm more familiar with that word meaning something different to the definition that I now see you have in mind. I'm confused however as to what you are classing as 'bitch time' though. Because initially I thought you were referring to anything that leads to furthering the relationship, not just time when your partner is 'being a bitch'. …

Are you so insecure about your relationship to think that it would collapse because you don't perform to you partner's desires at the drop of hat? I agree that sometimes you can rouse your sexual desires seemingly from nowhere but encourage women to be slaves to their male partner is sickening. No wonder men feel entitled to women's bodies if this is what women are telling to each other. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE SEX IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO HAVE SEX.

It's not surprising really considering the type of people who need this are the people who lack the social skills required to form relationships instinctively.

Well this is completely untrue. why would you not be able to have an emotional connection with someone and also be sexually attracted to them? In my experience the two go hand in hand (that is just my experience so not saying that's the right way or most common way, just that it is possible). Maybe I'm wrong but I get the sense from your final question that you know the answer, you're just looking for validation. Whether you want a long term relationship or a one night stand that is up to you. N…

If he didn't know how to take it there's no way you can know either. The statement is vague and open to interpretation. My interpretation was that she was calling you drunk so it just goes to show how many ways that statement can be read.

A. I'd go hungry. Would anyone seriously eat food you pretty much know is going to make you sick? Unless you were literally starving to death? This isn't an option but if there was more than the 4 choices given then I'd go back to my friends and tell them what I'd been told, then I'd contact the police because this person could be about to poison someone to death. To be honest I don't understand the point of this? What's the lesson?

The general idea makes a lot of sense to me and always has. I think putting a hard 1 hour per sex sessions is a bit of over kill though. For a start, everyone is different and some people are happy to put a lot more effort in than others. 1 hours just seems to have been plucked at random. Also (I'm new here so tell me if I'm misunderstanding something) as I understand it, the point here is to be promoting happy relationships. If all you value is sex that sounds like a dead end from the start, wh…
