The people who kicked him off the team = dickheads. Sorry your little Long Island team isn't up for the challenge of a player that started the game where there was actual competition, but don't penalize the kid or the team or the league in its entirety by getting rid of the talent.

Because there is no shortage of messages out there telling women not to get into cars with strangers (with candy?). When someone is actually victimized, it is exactly negative 86% useful to tell her she could have done a, b, and/or c not to have been raped. Women occasionally take risks meeting new people because they are enjoying themselves despite the warnings they've heard since childhood about how nasty and awful strangers are. And occasionally, when women take those risks the strangers turn…

I suspect they're mad because there were a fair amount of posters from here tweeting Ghitis about her article in the spirit of what I'm sure they thought translated into righteous indignation, but with the fake tweet they just kind of look like paranoid reactionaries. Also, it doesn't help that none of those tweeters bothered to verify their source- seems careless, and maybe even deliberately so. Especially after calling Ghitis an idiot for denying the deleted tweet after linking to the fake pic…

Haha, dude, this isn't like he is taking it out for air and you happened to notice and got a little put off- he deliberately targeted and used that woman for his own gratification! I don't know how you couldn't understand why this is violating, intimidating, and disgusting, and why it's perfectly reasonable to restrain a person who is using you in such a fashion until the police arrive. Never mind the perfectly justified fear and violation the victim experiences on the spot (because why should w…

dude, this wasn't his big toe we are talking about- it's his dick. He was showing it to this woman for the express purpose of his non-consensual sexual gratification. Women are so offended by 'that sort of thing' because other people showing us their dicks without our consent, in public, when we are minding our own business just trying to get shit done, is fucking violating.
/r/MensRights25/04/12 03:19 AM

Srsly? No one would blink if someone held a person for trying to steal something until police arrived. Flashing someone isn't a small crime- getting off on another person's reaction without their consent is criminal. Good for this woman.

It wouldn't make it meaningless, it just means the meaning is difficult to point down And I certainly hope it's falling out of vogue, but people are still using it.Anyway, enough of manginas and back to homemaking dads- I'd be behind that.

Hey, no one ever said the struggle for equality was going to be easy. If you want to break into that domestic sphere, there needs to be real effort on men's parts, and their women allies. Start marching, make some take back the kitchen signs, lobby for a more inclusive concept of family so single fathers can adopt, start insisting society recognize a penis doesn't preclude you from being loving and nurturing. I think the basic premise everyone here works on is the women's movement has been terri…

Dude, the term mangina gets bandied about all the bloody time- it's bloody impossible to pin its definition down, except to say it vaguely describes a gender traitor.

Fair enough, I get that impression from what I see in the media, too. But that was the same sort of bs they fed women during the women's movement- you'll never get a man, you'll die childless, barren and unfulfilled, blah blah blah. But a) not all men were like that and b) even if they were, you don't need men to complete you anyway. Same goes for men- not all women you encounter will be put off by your dedication to children, and even if they are, fuck em if they can't take a joke. Admittedly i…

Funny that saying 'fuck you' to traditional roles doesn't include being a nurturing stay at home dad or anything. Or does it? You know those guys, the guys who actually do face obstacles because of gender roles, the men people refer to as manginas? While you sit around grousing about what women have done to equality, these dudes have the guts to actually face down gender stereotypes to live their lives.

Verify away- there are articles upon articles on the subject of 'teach men not to rape' and the comparative efficacy of targeting the criminal rather than targeting the victim to reduce crime. Ordinarily I'd trot right on over to google myself and get one of those articles for you, but it would be a lot more instructive if you took that search to google and took some time to actually see the number of easily accessible articles as well as peer reviewed journal articles out there that are well be…

Well the reality of women committing rape is another subject entirely, and given that awareness campaigns have indeed been proven to be effective in reducing the rates of rape for women (where encouraging women to police their won behavior has not) I say it is high time someone started an awareness campaign about the importance of obtaining consent directed at women. That seems like a sensible MRM initiative. Was it with you I noted the impracticality of suggesting women change their behavior to…

Alanna, I don't know what your culture is, but where I am from, people habitually gather for a drink at a bar, or at a family gathering, or at a work or university function, and enjoy each other's company. It isn't bunjie jumping, it is socialization. It is not equitable to expect women to accept aditonal risk for this activity, nor is it absolutely necessary when we know there are campaigns that can reduce that risk. Look, sometimes we attract predators. It sucks. But there is no secret to the …

Ugh, you know what, that ain't even right. I just googled 'rape, men, child support' and saw two cases, one in Kansas and one in California, where a kid had been the victim of statutory rape and he was forced to pay child support. The California case went all the way to the supreme court and they refused to hear it. Here's another question- why is a sexual predator allowed to raise that child anyway? That's two child victims.

Couldn't have? Maybe. Shouldn't have? I disagree with you. It's not the actions of the victim that need to be called into question. The fact is, people get drunk, people meet new people in bars, and this is a completely innocent activity. I don't think it's worth the effort to try and convince young people not to participate in an innocent and fun activity they are well within their rights to enjoy because they aren't going to listen to you. To say that means they hold some responsibility for be…

See, there's a problem with the Mexico example as well. The person in your example sounds like an idiot, to be sure, but the law is there to protect idiots, too. And one thing is pretty consistent with young people- they will do something idiotic to put themselves in danger at some point. The existence of date rape drugs complicates things- some behavior that seems like idiotic drunkenness may be someone drugged without their knowledge. As far as the issue of consent goes, I don't think it is un…

Ugh, do you really think women have the primary say on abortion because of some feminist conspiracy and it has nothing to do with abortion happening in their bodies. And apparently some hospitals won't perform a tubal ligation without their husband's permission. Thanks, I did not know that until I had cause to look. That is not ok.
/r/MensRights15/04/12 01:21 AM
2

Well, it is the legal rationale- you know, control over the medical decisions over one's body and all. You really think that it's just a coincidence pregnancy happens inside of a woman?
/r/MensRights15/04/12 01:02 AM
1

The problem is it doesn't work. There is always some behavior you can describe as provocative to justify rape. And women do follow common sense rules all the time- they know to go in teams, cover their drinks, walk with their keys in their hands, etc. But rape still happens, and when it does people look to see what rule the woman didn't follow to deserve it. This isn't like driving a car too fast or some other risky youthful behavior- a thinking human being consciously ignored consent.
/r/MensRights15/04/12 12:47 AM
2

Ah, well, you see, the only reason women have abortion rights at all is because pregnancy happens in their bodies. if it were to happen in, say, am incubator, it would be a different story. But abortion isn't the equivalent of a smart financial transaction, it's a medical procedure.

Well that's just downright adorable. I point out you have an inconsistent line on misanthropy, to the point you can see them praise the same author in one instance of misanthropy and try to get her fired the next. But instead of saying the obvious 'hey yeah, it's a problem that needs fixing', you spend days trying to convince an audience of two that this isn't a problem, and a little misanthropy is a small price to pay for 'getting stuff done'. And then when trying to appear to make sense become…

Women's reproductive rights exist because pregnancy happens inside a woman's body. It's that simple. If men could get pregnant, I would be all for male abortion.

Have there been men out there marching to get rid of the draft recently? If there were, were there no women with them? Is it that you want feminists to schedule an anti-draft rally for men? Or you expect feminists top fight to be in an institution they don't believe in and is not even in effect right now because there is nothing more pressing for them to march for, like their reproductive rights. Middle school is a bit late to be hugging the teacher. As I recall middle school no kid, boy or girl, ran into the open arms of a teacher immediately after a fight, especially out of gratitude- that was face-saving time. ? Everything I pointed out is out there. On the interwebs. And I don't claim everyone in the MRM is being derogatory towards women, I am saying the majority of MRM material has some derogatory element in it. For all I know a minority of people are responsible for that vitriol- I certainly hope that's the case. When the narrative of your movement is laced in hatred, that reflects on the movement itself- and it attracts people who approve of a hate filled narrative to the movement. Right now, if g…

I think we covered the bit where calling women degrading names isn't the equivalent of 'doing something'. And, in fact, it's counter productive. Also, you're paying attention. I can only hope I planted a tiny seed of reason to blossom in later years. Cheers, bro!

Yeah, I followed that a bit. Gotta say, I felt bad for the posters who were sincerely happy about starting a dialogue with a feminist. Seems to me there are certain issues it would pay to have a feminist perspective on. Like cis male victims of dv- all the talk seems to be about measuring the numbers and none of it looking at the special interests of male dv survivors. All the while there has been a ton of research into homosexual couples and dv, as in studies of power dynamics that don't follow…

Wait, are you both talking about 'the spermjacker', as in that person who wrote an april fools story about a girlfriend who ran out of her boyfriends house with a used condom, screaming 'I'm finally going to get the baby I deserve!!!'. And then the fake bf in that story punched the fake girlfriend in the stomach and took back the condom? My complaint has consistently been with the narrative. I definitely do not want to abandon it. Again, it makes no difference if the person who wrote the article is an MRA- MRA's cited her and praised another misanthropic piece she did. And now you're saying criticizing hypocrisy and hateful language that makes up part of a movement is just me objecting because I want the MRM to be all about me? Wait, wut? You get annoyed hearing that hateful speech in the majority of the written works of the MRM is part of their narrative and I'm the one with delicate sensibilities? And then you get all preachy about men's concerns which I have already said concern me as well, like it is alright to say incredibly hateful and misogynistic things as long as you do some nice stuff to make up for it. Well, for starters I am not opposed to men's rights, or as I think of it, opposed to rectifying the real harmful effects of gender inequality. But I am not going to lie- any research into the subject is incredibly off-putting and laced with a lot of misogynistic commentary. I think you're assuming a lot based on your past experiences with posters, and that's understandable, but not really the case here. Men as victims of DV is an important subject, and there needs to be more discussion about it.…

Yes, I was presenting an alternative for you. Or rather a suggestion for a parallel campaign. Clearly awareness needs to be raised for women and consent, and awareness campaigns have been proven to decrease cases of sexual assault. 'Arousal does not equal consent- sex without consent is rape,' seems like it would fit nicely on a poster.
/r/MensRights11/04/12 05:41 PM

An awareness campaign for women- arousal does not equal consent! Sex without consent is rape. I think the most recent numbers for men is one in twenty have non-consensual PIV sex in their lives. (edit- I didn't call it rape because that isn't how it was defined in the CDC study, but it is most definitely rape.)

Your friends totally dropped the ball on this one. Even if you wanted to be into all that chivalrous stuff for exactly one night of the year while everyone dresses up in suits and ball gowns, an appropriate level of chivalry is to buy her a corsage (and she ought to be buying you a butonniere - is that what those are called?). Is there an an undercurrent that men as a gender are not taught how to deal with rejection? That would be a pretty good MRM thing to move towards- it seems like an emotional health issue.

"The MRM doesn't have a "narrative" past acknowledging that men have unique problems in our society which are ignored or dismissed by the larger social body." I would love it if that were the case because then the MRM would be the sensible group to look to when dealing with the special interests and challenges facing men. But just like other groups it has a history of published works, actions, and supporting documents available online that people look to to gage the credibility of the movement. …

You don't, you're talking past me. I am talking about analyzing the narrative for agenda, and pointing out attacking an author as though she has a feminist agenda doesn't make sense here, particularly since her work has been part of the MRM narrative in the past. She doesn't have to be an MRA for that to be true.
/r/MensRights10/04/12 02:13 AM

you know what- I'm not even mad. A male dv survivor was tortured and mutilated by his ex and some awful excuse for a human being writes about it like it was the funniest thing since that woman who steps on kittens so I get why anyone who isn't on the blind rage wagon gets told to fuck off. I'm just saying that when the rage dies down there is a definite inconsistency here and people are paying attention.
/r/MensRights09/04/12 08:01 PM

It doesn't make her an MRA, but it does make her work MRM related. She wrote a piece applauded on an MRA site for a paper that has written almost twenty pieces in direct opposition to feminist interests in the past year. This one inexcusable article may be absolutely repugnant for a lot of reasons, but it certainly isn't part of a larger anti-male agenda on the author's part or on the part of her paper.
/r/MensRights09/04/12 04:33 PM

antimisandry.com is an MRA site, but more importantly all I did was google the author's name and 'feminism' and the antimisandry.com forum was the second item in the search. That's some pretty low impact research right there, and it does affect how people perceive the narrative.

It doesn't seem to be a sexually motivated crime, which it needs to be for it to be sexual assault. Why would you grab a woman's breasts or crotch except to sexually assault them- they aren't easy to reach and it's less painful and debilitating to be grabbed in the crotch than hit in the face. Grabbing a man in the crotch will debilitate him and cause possibly life threatening injuries, so it makes sense there is no sexual motivation. Weren't there MRA folks all about Taylor Bigler yesterday when she wrote that anti-feminist and hateful article about how Ryan Gosling should have let that feminist journalist be hit by a car? And it's just fine to say you ought to let people who object to being cast as damsels in distress be killed by oncoming traffic, but if she continues in that same inhumane and sadistic vein when it comes to men she has gone too far? Consistency, please.
/r/MensRights08/04/12 10:32 PM
-13

Uh, Taylor Bigler is writing the MRA narrative- for instance she recently wrote an article about how Ryan Gosling shouldn't have saved that journalist from the taxi cab, as linked in some anti-misandry forum- seriously, google it. But given her propensity to write articles about how awesome it is for people to be hit by cars and have their genitals ripped off, I second the person who says she should keep his sociopathic musings out of the press (and possibly behind some padded walls).
/r/MensRights08/04/12 10:09 PM

Huh, never heard that term before, but what a great concept! Yeah, I guess I mean PIV sex.
/r/MensRights08/04/12 08:10 PM
-4

No, that talks completely past my point. I say the two words have completely different socially constructed meanings and he creates a straw-feminist intent to attack. Let's just put that to bed and say examining the meanings of words is not an act of reverence. Neither do I feel the last person to call me a cunt was being particularly reverent.
/r/MensRights08/04/12 07:59 PM
-2

Also, consider the significance of 'dick' and 'vagina' when it comes to sex. A lot of feminists (and women) are uncomfortable with male-penetrative sex in general. That would certainly influence the impact of the words.
/r/MensRights08/04/12 04:42 PM
-6

The point feminists are making is the two are based on two entirely different socially constructed histories. Just because at its most basic the words both describe genitalia doesn't mean the impact is the same. It's the same way you can't compare the impact of 'dummy' and 'retard'- same basic meaning, different impact.
