If your lawyer is “thinking” about ways to expose, you are already fighting a losing battle. Maybe you have to financial resource to expose her lies to prove a point, but ultimately, it is moot. Like someone suggested here, focus on your outcome and hire whoever you need to prove that. It really does not matter what you said or she said when you are the process, as long as you get to your intended outcome. Focus on that, and the lies will dissipate. The lawyers and the judges are happy to keep d…

She is unaware that she is biting more than she can chew. 1) she will end up paying you spousal support. If you don’t need it, it can be your bargaining chip. 2) She wants to maximize child support payment because that is one that never goes down. So if you start at a hight base, you are also getting screwed. 3) Outside of anything you individually bring to the marriage, everything is split down the middle then

I think a lot of post here is just trying to tell you that being the bigger person here will only result in you getting pinched in court. It is a myth to think the law is fair in matrimonial court. What you think is fair, is fair, but will likely not be the outcome. And the outcome more often than not is against you. If you wait, and let her dictate, guaranteed you will come back to this platform, cynical, and giving advice to other folks to get it done asap, so they can protect themselves. At t…

Child support aside, what is then the rationale for alimony for an able ex partner.

Unfortunately, unless you want to get a lawyer and judge involved, it is not worth your time. What you can do is document thus for the future. Hopefully you do not need to use it. Plan on working hard yourself to secure the future of your children yourself. As much as she is the mother, you can only hope she is responsible enough.

You are absolutely right. It will be a waste of time AND money at the end. However, it is a necessary step unfortunately. They goes into emotional overdrive and only gets logical when they are told the law is not their emotional playground. Be prepared to hear that she “settled” at the end of it when it is the logical end game in the eyes of the law. It is all hubris but they are wired to go on an emotional rollercoaster and waste the money. Nothing you can do, especially if she found a lawyer t…

Well, isn’t it funny when you see post or hear rants on “where are the good men!!!!” I quietly chuckle.

Since you are done with her… do not say anything. Silence is your friend. Engage a lawyer and figure out what your economic damage might be. Do an analysis to see if it is worth it to you. Because your kids are older, you have all the options here. Why divorce her if you have to pay a ton in alimony and child support? If you confront her, you might be forced into a move which is not economical for you. Unfortunately, here on out, it is all about the mechanics of money. Your pride, ego and emotio…

I think what is more important to think about is that, by not changing, what do you have to be cautious with your existing lawyer. Imagine going through this entire process with someone whom you have less and less confidence with. Trust in your lawyer is VERY VERY important. He/she is basically helping you set your life up, for the rest of your life. The risk of not switching far far outweighs the cost of switching. Understanding divorce will cost you a lot to begin with, the cost of switching i…

You are legally entitled to 50/50. That is your right. It is unlikely to be 100% either way unless there is proof of abuse. Do not forget that.. She cannot get rid of you unless you choose to. It sounds like you care a lot about your kid. And that is where your focus should be. The world has a funny way of working out. The more she tells the kid something bad about you, the more likely the kid will hate her, given that you do your part, do not expect anything in return and live your life while d…

Very interested in OP’s view about less time with children. There is a common thread of asking for 50/50 to ensure maximum time with kids. I am not sure that is the right answer… In terms of post nup, it is very difficult to redraw the line is what I understand from lawyers. What you can do however is make clear the contribution from each party, and therefore, the % ownership of the assets. For example, if she gets 50-50 assets, make sure her contribution is 50/50 and have triggers on monetizing…

There is no magic pill here, unfortunately. You will have to be ready to let yourself feel the wave of guilt. The truth is, it is already here and the good thing is you are seeking therapy. The longer you stay in the relationship, the longer you will feel guilty. The kids will be sad at first, but they will adjust. They are more adaptable than we are. If you feel that they are not going to be well adjusted, put them in therapy as well. From this point onwards, focus on action points, and as thin…
