Meh, not really. You said traditional gestures of a gentleman are mostly performative and I gave you a run down of what mine mean to me. If you don't get it, you don't get it. Anyone who has a heart for chivalry won't be affected by the perceptions of others, whether it's approval or distain, because we're not doing it for you in the first place. If you want to debate whether the examples you listed are more worthy than small gestures, that's another topic. But in that case, you should probably …

It all depends on who's doing it. I'm sure plenty of guys are performative in this, but not all of us. I won't stay seated on public transit when elders or women are standing. Even if they won't take the seat when offered, I'll just stay standing. I say Yes Sir and Yes Ma'am because that's how I was raised and I want to conduct myself in manner worth of my heritage and family. I open doors for most people, but *always* for ladies. No, it's just essential and easiest to screen for. I know in a split second if a girl is doable or not. It's a binary calculation and the decision doesn't change once it's made. If she's not a "yes" visually, there's no point in exploring personality, etc. Sex for men is like a shower in a house. It's not the only reason you pick the house, but you definitely wouldn't choose one without it. You expect to be able to shower regularly, and if your shower started deciding it wasn't in the mood, how …

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
