Good post, almost sounds like I would have written it myself - big fan of Schwab and Vanguard. Another decent option is Discover Bank (you may need a Discover card to get a checking account, but not positive). Discover accounts are all fee-free, they are tapped into a ton of networks so it's easy to find fee-free ATMs, free checks, and the kicker is they pay $0.10 per transaction (whether it's using the debit card, writing a check, or using free online bill pay). Depending on how you use your ch…

Damn dude, you come across like such a smarmy, condescending, self-righteous asshole. In my experience, the people who have to tell you how smart they are, and how stupid everyone else is, are neither smart nor self-aware. And I say that as a philosophy minor myself. I have a feeling writing is going to be something I begin doing a lot more as I follow this path of self-development. Share it somewhere else.

Great list! I have read all the above and totally agree that their value is worthwhile to anyone seeking to improve their life -- regardless of financial status, relationships, profession, etc. A couple others that I've found useful along the road: The Six Pillars of Self Esteem by N. Branden. During the reawakening stage and after a particularly painful breakup, I found this book helpful. Learning the concept of "alone-ness" versus "loneliness" continues to drive many motivations. Games People …

Well, it's hard to argue with stupid but there's a really....really simple solution to all of your problems and that is, when you are summoned to court, you show up. And ideally, you show up with an attorney. Problem solved! Edit: There is a difference between court intervention and court approval. So yes, when the parties come to an agreement on custody and support, it must still be approved by the court.

Interesting article, too bad it's full of falsities, red herrings, and misdirection. Here's Arizona's website where you can look up all cases by name. Here's Missouri's website where you can look up all cases by name. Find for me, please, any cases involving paternity/child support/domestic issues involving Leigh Adelmann. What's that? There aren't any? The only cases involve Adelmann's several traffic tickets, failures to appear in court on those traffic citations, and forgery? Oh. Whoops. Also…

See: Sperm Wars by Robin Baker. Common TRP-referenced reading that discusses this, along with other aspects of your post.

Thanks. This is why MRA issues will never progress, and why MSM and others think MRA people are jackasses. If you are going to be just as irrational as feminists (not to mention even more uninformed), then are you really any better?

First, please refer to the above response I just posted to Demonspawn. In addition... Prove that you graduated from law school. PM me with your email address and I'd be happy to send you a copy of my diploma and transcript from a T14 law school. You're welcome. In court, if you're a woman accusing a man of something, there is basically no burden of proof, her word is enough (rape accusations etc.) This is patently false. But, when the target is your average Joe Schmoe, who has no clue that court…

While we all appreciate the work you've done in the MRA movement, I didn't realize that it gave you an expert authority to comment on the US legal system. I think we'd all be better served with a stronger understanding of how the system actually works. [[I guess I should admit that I've been assuming we're speaking only of the US system; if you're referring to another country's legal inner-workings, I can't speak to that but I'd be interested in learning more.]] It does if they mail the court su…

Don't want to start a flame war here - just out of curiosity, have you studied law, and US civil procedure specifically?

I think you should leave the legal analysis to people who have graduated from law school (like me!). That is not what the law says. For a person to be a "presumed" father, he must proactively indicate the child was his own, regardless of whether DNA/biological proof has been presented. He can do this by (1) actually being married to, or (2) attempting to marry, the mother at the time of conception and birth (and not challenge paternity or file for divorce), (3) agree to support the child and agr…

And, to further clarify, a more targeted response to the points raised: Pre-nups can be nullified by a failure to disclose assets Solution = disclose assets. Pre-nups can be nullified by coercion Solution = follow the tests established by proper court(s) to create the presumption that coercion was not present when the pre-nup was signed. Family courts don't grant damages Solution = no shit, Sherlock. File a tort claim in a court of general jurisdiction.

"L" merely being a lawyer doesn't necessarily make him a good lawyer. Sounds like he has some personal issues to sort through, too. People on here should realize that just because one lawyer says it doesn't make it true. And I say that because I am a lawyer and thus know how other lawyers operate. Look, it's a simple proposition: if you've made the decision to get married, would you rather have a pre-nup or not? The answer should be obvious.

Real, legit attorney here. There are a lot of myths vs. facts about common-law marriage out there, and it's not just as simple as "if we live together for >7 years we're automatically married." You have to hold yourselves out to the public as a married couple (tell your friends/family that you're married), and actually publicly aver your intention to get married. Without doing both of those things, you're not "common law married," as it were. That being said, I'm not as much of a hardliner again…
