I can also relate to the notion of "dumbbing" myself down so that I can fit in with others. The only way to be successful is to stand out. A person can stand out as a nerd, but still be very socially successful. For instance, you have guys like Newton and Tesla, who were complete shut-ins but at the same time were still very successful. Since you said you have 2 years of college left, you need to figure out how to get into the good social circles in your school and you need to find out where the good parties are at. College is all about social standing and fitting in. You need to be considered "cool" if you want to do well in the college environment.
