I don’t have any data to support this, but I have definitely noticed that there aren’t many fat people in London or many other big cities, even in the US. I always assumed it was a combination of walking more and socioeconomic differences in places with a high cost of living. I have seen lots of fat people in the UK, just not so much in London.

I would say that both sides employ ad hominem responses very often. I don’t disagree with you that they come up in lots of majority female subreddits, I just think it’s a pretty universal knee-jerk response when someone attacks what you consider to be your foundational beliefs. Instead of actually discussing the intricacies of these beliefs (which are often extremely black and white), you caricature the person who disagrees with you as the worst the other side has to offer. Specifically with regards to FGM, does the fact that it’s conducted by women necessarily mean it isn’t misogynistic? I think the existence of MGM and FGM side by side in the same culture implies that (at least within that culture) the two are motivated by contempt for sexuality in general, as opposed to a contempt exclusively for female sexuality, but I don’t think the fact that women are responsible for FGM is particularly relevant.
