I think people make an issue because attitudes like the one in this Cosmo are widely accepted and sometimes even expected. Similarly, look at how popular Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" is. The premise of the song is, "you cheated on me, so I destroyed your car." In this case, the accepted behavior is that if a guy is late for a date and doesn't pay, it's OK and funny to steal his keys.
