Let the college require that all work crews be diverse. If women are serious about equality in the work place, they'll put on a tool belt and pick up a shovel.

Something that came up in a discussion I was having recently, is the alignment in age brackets for male suicide rates with the age brackets of the 130something mass shooters since 2000. I think in terms of root causes, the reasons behind suicide in men align with the reasons they go on shooting rampages (96% male, BTW). It's still suicide, but a tiny fraction lash out instead. It's not entirely about the guns, even though something like half of all gun violence is male suicide. The gun is the to…

Dunno why you're being downvoted, but it's exactly what I did. Dear John'ed my father as an infant, five divorces before I was 18. Booze. Drugs. Bunch of other shit. Haven't spoken to her in 20 years. I made something of myself and I didn't need her to do it. Not married, no kids. Not gonna marry, not gonna have kids.

We don't make different weight guns or bullets or armor. All that shit weighs roughly the same, regardless of who is lifting it. If the basic requirements are that a marine or grunt be able to hump their kit X distance per day, on X supplies that weigh Z pounds, that's the requirement. You won't achieve the same results with women, the physicality is that different. You would have to lower the bar. Navy and Air Force? Less of an issue. But on the ground, in the dirt, hauling gear and crossing te…

The amount of effort required for a woman to equal a man, physically, is Herculean. See Kaarsten Brasch v The Williams Sisters. Can't really argue this one. Women are less likely to CHOOSE industry work, while men are pressured to take any work they can get. Women can work, men must work. And they say we're commitment phobic. This is a deep rabbit hole, but typically, men get the shaft by the courts.

My general rule of thumb, looking at something from either perspective, is to gender swap the scenario. If it's not ok for one, it's not ok for the other. I'll support feminism as a force for actual equality, but I'll tear it down when it's a vehicle for oppression. The same thing goes for MRAs. I identify as humanist, and run on the basic doctrine that life is easier when we're not assholes to each other.

The reason this works is because in the blink of an eye, they're no longer just some transitory element in your life. You've applied some amount of permanence to the situation, something that people rely on when they abuse other people. People in line, bars, traffic, you name it. Think about every person who's ever cut you off in traffic. Do they make eye contact with if you pull up next to them? Probably not. They get away with this, in their own minds, by reducing you to non-people. Once you'r…

No, that's business model. Girls talk. If a bar throws some girls out because they do this, those same girls will not hesitate to play the victim card to their friends, who will promptly eat it up, and hold the bar accountable for not permitting them to be shitty people.

Being that it's a public place (outside, in line) here's something you can do to shitty people that will make them lose their shit: Pull out your phone, turn around, and take their picture. Not a goddamn thing they can do about it. They can't make you delete it, they can't sue you, they can't make a cop make you delete it, a cop can't make you delete it, it's an action protected by the First Amendment with a litany of case law to back it up. Then, you can post the photo, and the story on Faceboo…

Correct me if I'm wrong.. but isn't a false rape accusation, technically, extortion? By its very definition? Example: Tenn. Code Ann. § 39-14-112. Extortion. (b) It is an affirmative defense to prosecution for extortion that the person reasonably claimed: (1) Appropriate restitution or appropriat…

My ex couldn't handle her rambunctious boy, coming up on his second birthday. Come bed time, he was in charge if he didn't want to stay in bed. When we first started dating, that ended right quick with a mere two minutes of effort on my part, with nothing harsher than the expression on my face and a firm presence, and she couldn't understand how I could manage it so simply when she couldn't manage it at all. Growing up with sisters, she had no insight into how a young boy works, or how to manage…

It isn't. But they both made the decision to have sex. That's my entire point. If he wants a child, discuss it first, if they both agree, different story. If they just have sex and she happens to get pregnant, that's irresponsible on the part of both parties. His decision was still made when he decided to have sex with her.

You're putting the decision point in the wrong place. I'm largely pro-life, I don't think abortion is the best thing in the world, but it's certainly not my place to put my opinion into someone else's decision, because it's intensely personal and ultimately none of my business. But. The decision to have a child or not is made when the penis enters the vagina. It's how babies are made. Period. You can reduce the odds with various methods of contraception, but the risk is still there. The choice y…

My point is that our problems, as men, is that generationally, we've continually lost our father figures and role models to conflicts. War destroys families. Many don't recover. Vietnam created a lot of single moms, mine included, and she bounced through marriages her whole life, dragging my brother and I with her. Any politician running on a family values platform and voting for war is the worst kind of liar.

Perhaps if we'd stop sending our fathers and big brothers off to fucked up, meaningless wars, generation after generation, to return with PTSD, permanent disfigurements and other trauma, if they return at all, we'd have father figures worth a damn.

I see your point, but the changes you're hoping for aren't realistic, in my opinion. You're expecting a logical, legal outcome to an intensely emotional debate. Look at Roe v. Wade, people are still looking for ways to change it, and since they mostly can't, they're looking for ways around it. This is the same case, but we can address the root cause instead of the inevitable symptoms, with better education and some willpower.

Not really. I think condoms are a good idea, because both parties would have to be trusted to be taking the pill, and there are still STDs to account for.

I don't disagree with you. My point here is that we should be educating ourselves out of that trap, because it's going to be nearly impossible to change the system without a major sea change in our society as a whole (and I'm thinking of scenarios like WWIV or Fallout 2.) We know what's waiting for us in the courts. We know that we get there by listening to our penis and not using our brains. Knowing is half the battle. Keep it in your pants or armor up.

The death of a pedestrian is a risk we accept when operating a vehicle, and we mitigate it with education and well designed traffic controls. A plane crashing is a risk we accept when choosing to fly, and airlines mitigate it with education, and safety regulations. Pregnancy is a risk we accept in order to have sex, for recreation or procreation. We should mitigate it with education and well designed traffic controls. We, as men, have direct control over the final outcome, but we largely waive t…

I'm sorry, no, this is a post about perceived inequalities in mitigating the consequences of choices that have already been made. Men have complete control over what happens to their penis. That's what kills me about these arguments. Don't want to be a father? Don't put your penis in a vagina. Don't let her convince you that it's ok because she's on the pill. Bring your own condoms. Pull out. Put it on her chin. Stick it in the pooper. Anywhere but the vagina. What? That doesn't work for her? Do…

Uh, having sex IS consent to fatherhood. The last time I checked, sex was still the leading cause of childbirth. It's an act with a statistically reliable, foregone conclusion. You're wrong on this. He did have a choice, he made it when he ejaculated in her birth canal. If he didn't want to have a baby, he should have taken steps, like contraception, to reduce the chance of it happening, or found other ways to not ejaculate into her birth canal. She made the same choice, because as adults, both …

This is a sex education problem, at it's root. Sex means babies. Even with contraception, there's a risk. I feel bad for your brother, in this situation, I really do, but he chose to have sex, protected or otherwise. These are the questions that need to occur in a relationship long before the fact.

Minority groups controlling the topic by focused downvoting. The default filters hide things below a certain threshold, which requires effort to then see the content. Removing the ability to sink things, while maintaining the standard 'cream to the top' model, would make it more difficult for the dissenting opinion to completely derail what would otherwise be useful discourse.

If you're going to talk about the wage gap, you have to do it in apples-to-apples comparisons of the job in question. If you're talking about 'on the whole' and averaging wages across gender lines, and not the job or career path, then you're doing it wrong, because women don't choose the same jobs men do, or take the same risks: http://blog.american.com/?p=12653

Let's put this into perspective. Imagine for a moment that you get pregnant. You decide to have an abortion, either without telling him, or against his wishes. It's his baby, too, but who ultimately gets to make that decision? If you decide for both of you, are the people upset for your husband still silly? Long and short, don't ask someone to do something you wouldn't or couldn't do yourself. Do you want him to get a vasectomy because you have no desire to bear (more) children? Does he share that view?
