I’m so excited for this!

Talking about amazing women is great! I don’t think a single soul has a problem with that. Great people exist everywhere of every color and gender and we should celebrate as many as we can

Because historically, those were the groups that lobbied the fiercest for their own rights. Men were assumed to already have them.

Yep, but this is the internet. Not real life. People ont he internet are a lot more binary than in real life

I’m not sure there’s a good reason to be over there unless you already agree with what they’re saying. It’s not a place for anyone who advocates for men’s issues.

It’s because women have the lion share of the voice when it comes to discussion of gender. So when something affects them, it’s “new” information in the gender discussion.

They’re not perfect. Don’t get me wrong. But I’ve seen more and more male centered comments gain traction there, a lot of quasi-feminist gaslighting being either downvoted or heavily replied to with other who disagree. It’s getting a lot better in my opinion. But it’s no where near the quality of this sub

r/MensLib is kinda a middle ground imo especially since it’s increasingly becoming more tolerant of male focused opinions. It’s getting a lot better but I still like coming here because I think this sub focuses a lot more on left wing ideals and approaches to men’s issues more than any other sub does.

Here ya go. Coercive control is a strategic form of ongoing oppression and terrorism used to instill fear. The abuser will use tactics, such as limiting access to money or monitoring all communication, as a controlling effort Really popular tactic among abusers, especially female abusers because of its lack of needing to be physical/violent.

Pre nuptial agreements certainly help make divorce easier and less stressful for both parties because it is legally binding and can be used in court. . There are ways to protect yourself.

Putting women in office helps the women who get a chance to be in office. It also helps pave more paths for women to hold office

That’s still part of an initiative that they spearheaded.

Here’s an article about some of the stuff they’ve accomplishment and some of their shortcomings. Twenty years on, progress is hard to chart. There have been improvements. Fewer women are dying in childbirth, more are holding political office, and FGM has shot up the agenda. Again, blanket ignorant statement like “UN Women helps no one” isn’t useful to the movement in improving the lives of men.

Men aren’t killed because they’re men, they’re killed because they not women. I think that’s what people need to start saying to highlight the ways in which men are the invisible majority of victims of every genocide, war crime, and physical violence.

There’s a lot less pressure on women to have children than there was in the past and there is a growing expectation for women to be “working moms”. There is such thing as a “Motherhood penalty” where moms who take time off to have a child have a harder time coming back into the workforce. Idk why you would need to counter that because it doesn’t reflect itself in the gender pay gap until they make a choice to have children. I’d use that point to advocate for more parental leave and social welfar…

No, not every woman will bring emotional drama into your life and you don’t have to associate with women that do. Have higher standards for the women you interact with and date because there are so so SO many women who are calm level headed and a joy to be around.

That’s fucked and dumb advice. Women in general are as great as anyone else is. They are people first, women second and this type of thinking will hurt men not help them. Honest advice, go to therapy. Talk to a counselor, a licensed professional about how you feel about women and your own personal relationships and learn how to stand up for yourself without being a callous person towards a particular gender.

Because mothers are seen as more important than fathers. It’s not much more complicated than that, since the 1920s there been a movement away from placing importance on the father as men started working longer and longer hours and women spent more time with their children.

UN women definitely helps people but it’s mostly focused on women. Just because they don’t focus on men doesn’t mean they aren’t helping anyone. However, there should be more outreach front he UN in general in order to assist men who are genuinely struggling the world over.

That’s has very little to do with men’s rights especially when there’s actual issues that deal with male bodily harm. Leave LGBT and sexuality alone. If you don’t want to date trans people, that’s fine, keep that shit to yourself. It has nothing to do with promoting the welfare of men. I dont know what the hell sports has to do with any of the conversation. This is just fucking dumb, low effort, quasi bigotry at its finest and it would be better if it didn’t exist in this subreddit. Men’s rights…

It’s a way to add to the urgency of the issue. Highlighting female victimization is more likely to make people sympathetic to your cause

You really shouldn’t try to “debate” with people you disagree with because if you do, you’re not trying to learn, you’re trying to win and honestly, you’ll get nowhere doing that. Listen carefully to what they said, take it, do your own research and see if what they said holds up. If it does, great. If it doesn’t, also great, find some sources/evidence that counters what they said and perhaps talk to them again and engage in a reasonable conversation.

You really shouldn’t view your whiteness or maleness as oppressive or evil or something you should be self-deprecating about. It’s just a part of you, you never had any agency in so why talk about it positively or negatively.

“Man child” is simply a slur that people (primarily women) use to put down men who don’t meet their expectations. It’s a simple as that, it’s offense and we shouldn’t tolerate it.

Nah, college is still worth it. I majored in computer science and wasn’t really subjected to the anti-male bias that you’d see in the humanities.

Aside from the content of the argument, you don’t use a slur like that against someone else you’re arguing and it shows that they aren’t mature enough to have a decent argument with you

It’s easier to breakdown and cry in front of my male friends than female friends. It’s really women that expect us to be strong and stoic unless the emotion has anything to do with them.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/03/21 09:12 PM

I disagree wholeheartedly because I think men do emotionally support each other in ways that look alien to women or a lot of onlookers who think that emotional support looks like hugging, crying and being being intimate. I’ve been lucky enough to have male friends who are there for me whenever I need help, both emotionally and physically (like we play soccer together on a team), but we were once stranger that met on a Sunday afternoon in the summer to play soccer. Since then, we’ve connected ove…

You’re cherry picking an example of literally the only case where women get punished more harshly than men do for similar crimes. The example of IPV is an ANOMALY and it’s quite literally a criminological fact that has been proven over and over and over again that men get harsher punishments in the justice system. Stop spreading misinformation. And if you’re feminist, you’re ruining feminism with this shitty logic.

What the actual fuck. These are the kind of articles you write when you need to hit that quota of 7 articles a month and you’re on your 3rd (and it’s Feb 28th). Peeing standing up is much more enjoyable than peeing sitting down. Also more useful in public spaces.

I’m sorry for your experience but and important step in overcoming trauma is to learn to trust/allow yourself to trust the other person while also setting clear boundaries. This means, you need to communicate your fears and some of your issues with the women you’re close too, if they’re good friends, they’ll understand and it would be a heart to heart talk. I recently made female friend and we spent time talking about our pasts. Mine includes some abusive relationships where I was the victim of …

I definitely agree. Trans-people are certainly not a monolith and I find it a bit disturbing that this particular trans-woman’s voice was elevated above everyone else’s. Norah Vincent is quite an interesting character who’s experiences I think do a lot for bridging the gap between male and female perspectives on men. This is something I’d like to see too and to be honest, there are some critiques of feminist ideas of masculinity with some proposals to a more like Belinda Brown suggesting some anthropological evidence.pdf). Yuchen Yang also does a good job of dissecting how hegemonic masculinity is a pretty big part of the problem. So there are some critiques. Side note: while looking into the foundational aspects of hegemonic masculinity and where the source of its ideas come from, I’ve found that it mainly …

No, it’s not misinformation. However, I think it’s a complete misreading of what the MRM stands for and who’s considered the MRM. People like RooshV and Return of Kings are way more PÚA focused and don’t even talk about men’s issues outside of dating. So it’s biased

SPLC Link P---- is the only real empowerment women will ever know. Put all the hopelessly wishful thinking of feminist ideology aside and what remains is the fact that it is men and pretty much men only who draw power from accomplishment, who invent technology, build nations, cure disease, create empires and generally advance civilization. Women whether acknowledging it makes us feel warm and fuzzy or not, depend on men for all of that and the only tool they have at their disposal to have any so…

They identify as feminists more than men’s rights activists for many reasons. 1) Men’s Rights Activism is obscure. They’re researchers on Genocide/Social issues and might not be aware of MRAs. 2) Men’s Rights Activism is wrongfully maligned in modern media: Media has painted MRAs as being all tradcons who want nothing more than to establish male supremacy over women and preach hateful rhetoric against women. This is, as you likely know, very false because there are plenty of left-wing male advoc…

I disagree heavily. I think men can very much enforce negative gender stereotypes against other men, just as much (but tbh to a lessen extent) than most women and certainly most feminists. Many Feminists heavily reinforce patriarchal values that demean men but misandry is just man hating. Also Adam Jones and his colleagues are an example of non-misandrist feminists
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/02/21 05:25 AM

Some misandrists are feminist but not all feminists are misandrists. Misandrists are just people that hate men for being men, they include other men who send men to die, ignore male suffering or are overall shitty to men because they’re “not women”. Men can be misandrist too.

This was super interesting read! One thing I don’t think a lot of women understand about men is that we really can’t empathize with the whole “being over sexualized” thing. Men are rarely sexualized and/or appreciated when they display any level of sexuality. In fact, they’re actively shamed for it. It would be nice to feel desired. I think this is an interesting experiment and even one you could highkey, write a book about!

The problem is that aggression is associated with being male. Simply as that. My biggest issue with this is that there’s really no way to objectively do this without injecting your own personal bias especially when using gendered language does not change the fact that aggression happened nor does it really tackle the issue of aggression. Basically, when you associate aggression with masculinity, you’re showing a personal bias with ascribing violence and aggression with men. There is no benefit t…

Ok, I want to give a bit more of a balanced take on this question because it seems a lot of the responses are simply “no, feminism hates men, always has, always will”. Feminism is a very strange movement and very difficult to actually define because there are so many issues and perspectives given its age, longevity and it’s widespread acceptance in mainstream American gender politics. With all that said, I think the analytical approach that the Men’s Movement has in looking at male oppression bo…
