And the cycle repeats. I give you, Harpya: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF-TajnHT2o (Possibly the best animated short ever produced. Both for its unique art style, and the story it tells)

That won't go over well... most of them have a hard time getting through 3 tough sets. cf. French Open Women's finals

Hooooly shit this just reminded me of a story from my early twenties. Meet this girl, she has a tattoo of some cartoon guy on her leg. This thing was big, covered her whole calf. Me: "Oh who's that, I've never seen that cartoon before?" Her: "It's actually based on a real person" Me: "Like, one of your friends?" Her: "No, just this random guy I met..." Me: "So, why do you have the tattoo?" Her: "He bet me I wouldn't get a tattoo of him" Me: "..." That's the worst I've ever experienced. A lot do …

Actually it's 67% more! Notice how they frame it as "40% less" comparing the women to the men, likely so that it doesn't sound quite as bad.

Ohhh my lord how coincidental. I haven't used Windows in years. I got a new machine delivered today with Windows 10 on it, and I was mucking around with it today just to see where it's at (before I wipe it). I saw some women in STEM stuff, and it really caught me off guard... There was your 1 chance Windows...

We're working on it! https://arstechnica.com/science/2018/03/attack-of-the-pond-virus-it-outwits-drug-resistant-bacteria-saved-mans-life/ Looks like the future may hold a phage-antibiotic combo for dispatching these. Still pretty worrying though.

Erdős! Did not occur to me that he was essentially a mgtow. But I haven't thought about him for some time---longer than I've known about mgtow. (Erdős number of 4 btw humble brag cause I haven't used that one for awhile)

I had the same thought a few years ago when I started mentoring younger students. "I feel like..." everywhere... No! Choose your words more carefully. I actually caught myself forming my sentences in such a way, and once becoming conscious of this, it's ironic that I no longer have to think to start sentences with "I think". Societal programming is so strong.

Early 30s. Here's what's "regular" to me. Live in a studio apartment. Basically a bed and an extravagant desk/workspace (which doubles as dining table), decent kitchen and bathroom. I don't even have a car to worry about. Just me, my little place, and a few guys I play sports with on a fairly regular basis. Wake up. Exercise/train. Breakfast. Science (reading/writing from the comfort of my home battlestation). Head into the lab, check up on the underlings and colleagues. Lunch. Science (lab-nece…

Same here brother. Coincidentally I would also put two of my past exes in the extraordinary category. It's really funny to see similar destructive behaviours among the "bright" and the dull ones. The last one I was with was probably the smartest, and even she couldn't (can't) tame the AWALT tendencies. As far as I can tell, the higher IQ goes towards their capacity for deceit... At least I was duped harder and longer by the smart ones... but maybe that's just more a comment on me. However, from …

Your friend sounds like me in relationships. I also dislike having my beard, but every single relationship I've been in has ended in me with a beard. I would always shave it off immediately after the relationship fell apart, but never really paid attention to the pattern... Basically the mindset progresses like this - I don't really care for my beard. - Oh she prefers my beard (and she can't handle my stubbly scrapings), guess I don't really care that much, seems like such a trivial thing to be …

I'm the kind of person who closes the toilet entirely when I'm done. Like, maybe I'm super paranoid about toilet water nebulizing and spreading over the bathroom a little bit at a time... maybe. Subconsciously. What I'm trying to say, is that this does not work. I had a girlfriend many years ago and she would bitch to me about the top seat being down, because of the time it takes to raise it up. Nothing is ever about logic...

True. Agreed. One important thing to take away as well: Towards the end of their relationshit, he is only focused on the bad. Afterwards, he only remembers the good. Be aware of this folks. Think of the good before you cut her out - this will make things more difficult for sure, but if she's betrayed you bad enough you will make the right decision. More importantly, set up some way of reminding yourself of the bad. For me this is the form of an email to myself. Subject: REMEMBER <name>. This may…

Short story time: my username was born of this episode. During the week after finding out my live-in semi-dependent girlfriend was a dirty slut who had been impregnated (and aborted) behind my back, while I was figuring out my exit strategy, said gf wanted to watch black mirror. This episode hit me so fucking hard, came out of nowhere as this show does. I remember looking at her during the episode for something... any sign of humanity. Nothing, while tears are literally welling up in my eyes. Gr…

She would yell and punch and kick and slap me, and then stand in front of the door when I said I'd had enough. I was never brave enough to lay a finger on her at that point to get her out of my way. But this wasn't even the worst. The worst was the first couple of times she pulled a kitchen knife on herself, pressing it into her arm threatening to simply slide it. My dumb-ass self managed to distract and wrestle the big-ass knife (she always went for the big one...) on two occasions. Praying for…

What's hilarious is I read this as: Being smarter having a better reaction time, we can eat more without getting fat and what not. Punctuation is important! Yes, even on reddit.

Same story with the live-in girlfriend. Whenever she tried to kick me to the couch (literally kick... almost kneecapped me on a few occasions) I would tell her to grow up. She would get mad and move to the couch eventually. Probably one of the few things I did right throughout that relationship.

I have always interpreted the second half as a comment on human life in general. We literally can't produce life without them.

I guess all of our exes attended gas lighting 101. I was duped hard by that behaviour. I still get a little down on myself when I look back at "me" in the company of my ex.

Funny, I got up at 4am today because I was thinking about some interesting things to work on yesterday. I don't usually get up this early, especially on a weekend. It's now just after 8 and I just came down out of my flow. Good morning!

Unfortunately it seems like you can still be fucked by this reasoning... Society says "shellbroth is the father of this baby whose mother he never had sex with." Bam. Done. You're a dad. Err... congratulations?

Was partially putting my ex through grad school as well. Doing the "proportional expenses for proportional wages" kind of thing... Funny how much of the expenses were purely to satisfy her. Good thing I discovered her cheating and fucked off, cause I'm sure she woulda done the same after the 2.5 years left in her degree.

Ok, story time. My ex and I ordered a shitload of stuff from IKEA one time when we moved. Among all of this crap were 2 identical dressers. I assembled one, and she decided to assemble the other one day when I was at work. I honestly don't know what the fuck she did to it to make it so god damned wobbly... One thing I made sure of was that I got the one I assembled in the break up. Little victories.

Now's your chance. Get back to being you. There are undoubtedly things (that YOU enjoy) that you have stopped doing over the course of the relationship. In my story, I gave up a lot of things because of her whining and passive aggressive bullshit. It was only a 3 year relationship, and I just bottled up these losses. Wrote them off. But these were things that I realize now I missed dearly. Things I had done before her. Without her. Maybe you can relate. Maybe you can rediscover something that yo…

I used to observe my ex while we would be grocery shopping. It completely blew my mind the first time I noticed the pattern of her clipping people with a cart, or wandering in front of someone else and getting clipped herself. Then I couldn't look away... every time it was a game, <how many times today?>, and occasionally I would lose my cool "Honey move... Jesus" "You don't have to take that tone, why do you always talk down to me?" Ahh the good ole days. Never again.

I think at that point we will see the very best from Bill. Not heeding his own advice only to be run through the grinder... He'll be back in 10 years or so and if he's still got the chops he became known for, he'll be better than ever. I stopped listening to his podcast entirely a few months ago, just started feeling a disconnect with his comedy. Didn't get to laugh much at his new special either. Too bad, really.

Very similar progression for me! Didn't know about BPD until after I was trying to make sense of why/how a seemingly great girlfriend (Fucking "love" blinders) would betray me so badly. Also enjoying life much more after getting out.

Ohhhh boy this does not work. I had considered this years ago. In fact, my most recent ex is the only one who I have ever considered the possibility of marriage based on her view "Divorce is NOT an option, my family would ostracise me." She was brought up catholic in the heart of Italy, none of her family had ever been divorced. Fast forward to 2 months ago. I found out she had cheated on me, gotten pregnant, had an abortion, and tried to hide it all from me. After finding this I promptly ended …

Funny how those red flags get so much brighter in hindsight isn't it? I know the frustration, but all we can do is learn from our mistakes, and share enough stories in hopes that others can learn from them as well.

Yes! Absolutely yes. After my breakup I moved out and into a tiny bachelor apartment. Bed, dresser, desk/table with chair, tv stand and some bookshelves are my only pieces of furniture. The neediness of her and her cat (granted the cat is very cute, but holy fuck that guy had attachment issues) are a thing of my past. And the simplicity of this life has done wonders for my mental state. I'm no longer such an anxious person (I used to literally break out in sweat talking to people), I can focus f…
