These are the posts I enjoy reading here. Someone knows a lot about something that I didn't even know existed.

No it doesn't. In flexion the lat is responsible for closing the upper arm to torso angle all the way from overhead extension. This is what happens in a chin up. A dumbbell row is the last 90° of the lats ROM in regards to flexion and only half of its "full range of motion."

I prefer PPL or PPShouldersL for the additional volume. You don't have to do cardio to be lean. If you want to be athletic, fast or lean sprints are awesome. I've never heard that they impair muscle growth compared to LISS, how does that work?

I'm not a fan of any of these. Unless you're unusually attractive they'll likely be seen as creepy. Mimicking her is trying too hard and talking about how smashed you're going to get seems like you're overqualifying yourself to her as a cool, fun party boy. The OP's opening is much more relaxed and elegant.

This post is trash and you should be embarrassed for writing it. What kind of fucked up loops did you have to force yourself through in order to hamster out some connection between a massive international tragedy and feminism? You have absolutely no clear information on the matter and it's clear you're just propagating some fucked up personal bias. Feminist theory is likely negatively influencing our society but linking everything evil that happens to gender dynamics is at best irrational and at…

Agreed. If I wanted to read a thousand redundant posts about why feminism is bad and men have hard lives I'd browse the Mens Rights sub. The weekly fitness posts are usually trash, with either obviously inexperienced lifters giving out advice after reading a few T Nation articles or guys who write instagram bodybuilder bullshit and treat lifting like some impossible, glorious task when all it is is eating well and training smart. I'd welcome more posts about finance, careers, hobbies, friends, t…

No facebook, no snooze button and no phone/internet surfing in class. I will stretch every day.

It partly does. He listed doing the same amount of work in a lower time as an increase in volume. Doing 4 sets is faster than 8, but that's a technicality. If you make that Set-Rep change you're still getting stronger.

This is a very good point and I do agree in part. Progression is generally qualitative. Obviously for the one armed chin up I use weighted pullup progressions, then to isometric holds, then eccentrics and finally concentrics. But quantitative progression is still possible without incremental loading. What provides this loading - since a lot of bodyweight skills are products of isometric tension - is time. For example, my L-Sit progressions went: 6x10 second holds, 5x12s, 4x15s and yesterday I di…

For lifting to make a substantive differance in your life you have to do it seriously for about five years. Unless you're an absolute physical embarrassment when you start, no you don't. Within a year of consistent training you will already be much stronger and much bigger. I would argue that in 2 years you can have a decent physique. The kind of people who succeed in fitness have unhealthy obsessions. "Success in fitness" is not having a fitness related instagram account with 100k followers. It…

I'm beginning to change my opinion of lifting. I don't see it as necessary anymore. It might be because I've accomplished what I wanted already or because I just got bored with it. I don't push guys towards weights, but I do believe physical training is absolutely, 100%, unavoidably necessary to being a proper, well rounded person. I began lifting a few years ago, achieved 155/225/315/405 plates in the four major lifts for 3x5/3x10/3x5/1x5 and a fairly decent physique. Around 4 months ago I swit…

Personally I wouldn't waste my time with sit-ups. They're probably not good for your back and don't actually contribute to anything. Work towards a real goal like a front lever, L-Sit etc. You'll improve your core strength way more in less time. You can maintain and even build on your strength and physique even without a gym.

This is a really good point. Obviously having passions in life enriches you as a person and is valuable in itself, but if you're trying to extend it's value outside of itself and show that it makes you valuable, then you've got to communicate that in the proper way. For example an interest in blacksmithing can be described as "I enjoy making useful or beautiful tools with my own hands," or "I just really like knives." One people will find interesting and an insight into your personality whereas …

I'm not really a fan of Hopsin but a while ago someone posted Ill Mind of Hopsin 5 and it's savage destruction of the college boy lifestyle opened my eyes up to what was going on around me.

I got into bladesmithing a year or so ago. It's a lot of fun and if you start out with stock removal it's a fairly cheap hobby that can pay for itself rather quickly. All my initial tools were around 100$. Anyone that's interested should check out Walter Sorrels videos on youtube. He's got some great beginner to advanced tutorials. After reading this topic and seeing that a lot of us have similar interests I think that it could be worthwhile to set up a sort of hobby/passion/interest related wee…

I don't mean to sound condescending but here's how you should abandon your interest to fit it with the ideology of an internet community. The guy likes taking pictures of planes so he takes pictures of planes. Leave him be.

What kind of posterior chain strength do you think guys who can hold a planche, maltese or back lever have? Ross Enamait pulled 495 @ 170 without ever training deadlifts. I think I was misunderstood so I apologize. I'm not saying don't lift weights. In fact, it's a fairly non controversial claim that deadlifts and squats are better for lower body strength development than any purely bodyweight exercises. I'm just saying that lifting is not the only way to get strong. Focusing only on the number …

You don't have to lift, but you do have to be strong. We all know guys with 500lb dead-lifts who can't do a single muscle up or handstand push-up. Strength isn't just the weight on the bar, it's also your ability to control your own body. This kind of ability isn't limited to the inside of a gym.

You mean the guy who's one of the most annoying proselytizing fake natty's out there?
